Re: NRL more popular outside it's hearland then the AFL
I would have thought that NT would at most favour AFL a little but I would say that it is fairly neutral but feel free to not include them if you want.

Re: NRL more popular outside it's hearland then the AFL
Im curious. When they move at the age of say 7 like James Segeyaro Goroka does that count? Fair enough they are from when you say they are from, however you said in your Opening post :
I could probabaly add another 50 players if thats the case.eelofwest wrote:players that grew up playing outside NSW, QLD.
Re: NRL more popular outside it's hearland then the AFL
The NRL is a 2 state game as you guys have said countless times, NT is AFL always has been. James Segeyaro i will remove that one if that is the case.

I think that will do I am missing a lot of the NSW (Murry bushrangers recruits) and I havent included generally players who were born overseas. But I think 113 is a good number to finish on.

Re: NRL more popular outside it's hearland then the AFL
Squads are about 850 for the total I would say. I can add a few more but I would say without NT about 120 players

So much for the commonly used "VFL" troll used by parraeels and co. Aussie rules is clearly national.eelofwest wrote:The NRL is a 2 state game as you guys have said countless times, NT is AFL always has been. James Segeyaro i will remove that one if that is the case.

Lol Yes xman i have never once disputed the fact that AFL is a more national game then the NRL, i have actually confirmed it several times during my time here on TF.Xman wrote:So much for the commonly used "VFL" troll used by parraeels and co. Re: NRL more popular outside it's hearland then the AFL
Eel I have asked a qusetion a few times. You have asked for players that grew up outside of Qld/NWS is that correct? Because I need to know what your definition of grew up outside of a state is defined by.
Here are a few moer names as well for the AFL Eels
All of these players were born in the countries listed. Im not sure how long they spent in those countries as kids. There are more as well.
Shane Savage (NZ)
David Roden (Fiji)
Alipate Carlile (Fiji)
Aaron Edwards (Somoa)
Brad Moran (England)
Jamie O'Reilly (Ireland)
Michael Quinn (Ireland)
Harry O'Brien (Brazil)
Another point is that you have listed players from the Riverina, which is NSW. Surely you have to draw a line some where. So far as well all of your Vic and WA players except maybe Corey Patterson (played in Newcastle in high school) I would classify as bred in NSW/Qld but im happy to accept them just give me an answer because if you are playing by those rules I will have a lot more to add.

I have listed all these players through wikipeadia, so if there is any mistakes you would have to let me know which ones and why these are wrong.piesman2011 wrote:Eel I have asked a qusetion a few times.
As for your list i really have to check to make sure your list is correct also.
Really want change the Fact that NRL is more popular outside its heartland then the AFL..

I would say that the AFL probabaly has the NRL covered on numbers or at least it would be fairly similar. The NRL has the AFL covered on percentage. Overall you would say that the NRL is able to draw on move talent then the AFL from outside its heartland. It is debatable as to weather the NRL has been the cause of development in places such as NZ. The reason I say this is because whos to say the union didn't contribute in a large way to the initial development of a large percentage of the NZ players and they then decided to cross codes.

I dont know which sport is more popular outside of its heartland and I dont really think this is a measurement of popularity. I would say that the NRL can draw on more players then the AFL, however I believe that the AFL itself has developed more players outside its heartland then the NRL who would get players from superleague and from NZ union.

Here is a list of NRL who in my opinion grew up in Qld/NSW but you have them listed as comming from else where:
Justin Poore (WA) Spent his school years in NSW played for NSW SOO
Bryson Goodwin (WA) Born in Sydney played for Cronulla as a junior
Matt Groat Rankins (riverina) I believe that this is still NSW.
David Mead (PNG) played all his junior footy in Lismore New South Wales
Neville Costigan Rabaul (PNG) He moved with his parents to Queensland at a very young age
James Segeyaro Goroka (PNG) although I think you already removed him
Cant find Tuqiri Korolevu is that Lote Tuqiri? who was from Korolevu?
Petero Civoniceva (Fiji) moved to Qld at age 1
Akuila Uate (Fiji) attended Brisbane Waters Senior College and represented Australia and schoolboy level in 2005.[2] As a junior, Uate came 3rd in the underage Australian sprinting finals.
Willie Tonga (ACT) Showing a talent at a young age while living in Peak Hill, New South Wales and the family finally settled in Cherbourg, Queensland.
No doubting these guys birth places or Heritage however most of them seam to be playing all of their footy in NWS/Qld 80% of the players I have checked out so far all are bred in NSW/QLD
