I should be at umpire's training and once I get home I'll be concentrating on my website. Far more productive use of my time.

Fully understand that exposure new ideas is not the done thing in the AFL world. All very humorous really. Probably goes along way to explaining why NSW/QLD carry so much of the responsibility for Australia's international reputation ie we play and watch alot of sports even though League is easily number one.

I simply agreed with the view that the Vics/Melburnians had no interest in foreign things like Rugby League due to their sole interest in life being AFL. That of course has consequences and one of these is the fact that when it comes to providing representatives for other sports that have an international aspect eg cricket the Victorians are under represented big time. Thus it falls to NSW/QLD to provide the reps for a range of teams eg the Socceroos have really been the Sydneyroos. The Melburnians love to show up and watch the Socceroos or the cricket team it is just that there wont be too many of them on the grassy side of the fence.

Hmmm yes a fantastic and interesting point you raise there enarelle. The insular nature of the AFL supporting trolls on this site, i.e. TLPG and Xman, fits quite nicely with your assertion above. It is worrying that these folk cannot see beyond their favourite sport (or their anus in some cases) and understand both the flaws in their own code and the strengths of others. I recall raider and parraeels calling the melbournians a term, i think it was vickytaard or something similar. I now understand better what these two were on about and why the AFL supporters were so offended/insecure about the term. Narrow minded, one eyed, ignorant, arrogant, self absorbed, insular simpletons are other ways to describe these folk and, as a fan of melbourne and marngrook, it saddens me greatly to see these folk trolling around pretending they know it all.

Once again, great insight there enarelle, its really helped me better understand some of our members here at TF :)

So Victoria, with a total population of 5.7 million, is under-represented in international sport compared to NSW/Qld, with a total population of over 12 million?

Cool story bro.

Here's a better one, Xman. It's a straw man argument - and it has no legs. How many countries play thugby at any level compared to AFL? Population has nothing to do with it.

Needed to be said.

Victoria is under represented versus NSW. Over the last thirty years these has been twice as many test cricketers from NSW versus Vic. When it comes to cricket captains well 4 versus none. For every one Vic soccer player who made the Socceroos there are 8 from NSW. Are the names Cahill,Neill,Kewell,Emerton,Schwarzer etc familiar - all from NSW

You might be familiar with names like Thorpe,Hackett,Jones,O'Neill,Magnusson,Rice - not a Vic in sight.

Fascinating and poignant stuff there enarelle! I think this is quite groundbreaking research you've conducted, its opened my eyes as to why Xman and TLPG are like they are. They simply dont know any different and havent been fortunate enough to have benefitted from a broad range of sports which were valued and offered to them as children. Alls these poor bumpkins have been fed is marngrook, that's like being fed cabbage soup for brekky lunch and dinner...well perhaps not that bad but you get my drift.

Xman and TLPG I urge the pair of you to watch the SOO tmw night and broaden your horizons you poor sporting malnourished bastards! I have much sympathy for the pair of you :o
