I was just thinking. You lost that bet we had about the Giants vs Swans crowd. Hmm, let me think of a new avatar for you. Think we had a wager as well didn't we Raider. Where is that thread now...

A fairly shameful turnout for gws but we shouldnt really expect any different for this new club settling in to RL Heartland. IMO there's little chance for gws if they hang out at homebush, a mere 15k from the swans territory. No i think they should tough it out at blacktown and slowly build their membership in a place which can honestly be called Greater Western Sydney. On my time out at this venue i quite loved sitting on the grass watching the sunset go down in the background. Its a lovely venue and is really all this team can expect to half fill when they are not playing the swans. For mine playing gws at homebush is another foolish poorly thought out move by the AFL.

Just did some research, Skoda stadium is at the revamped showgrounds, wow that's in Swans Territory why would you have GWS home ground so close to the Swans and so far from Western Sydney?

I honestly dont know why they did it eels. Beaussie says its so they can provide access for more people on the train line from south west syd but to me the team must be established within its own region first and formeost rather than established on another teams turf so people can access it. You cant have a team located betwixt and between so people can get a train in. This means the club is based in no mans land and therefore loses the real essence and grounding of its own home soil. The head honchos down at AFL HQ seem to have overlooked this fundamental aspect of support for a team.

I am more worried for the Swans, this team is now going to take some of their supporter base away from them. Even the CEO of the Swans is bitter toward the AFL for doing this and i can now see why. 35 Years of hard work put in by the Swans just to have the AFL do this to them, bloody disgraceful. I know the swans are getting 1 million a season to have this happen but that is peanuts on the gate revenue they will potentially loose
I know that the Swans fans will turn up to skoda for GWS games and the crowd will be decent out there but isn't the point of GWS to build greater western Sydney AFL? As the arangment stand atm with skoda as home ground all you are doing is sugar coating the game with decent crowds witch will make it look good on Tv but in the end your not actually building support out west more getting swans Fans to follow 2 teams.
Not many people from Blacktown are going to make the 1h30min train ride to the venue to watch the game. I have done this trip and its is horrible especially at night when some unsavory characters are on the trains.

Yes it is shocking the AFL did not think about how hard the swans worked to establish themselves in sydney. And yes, why would folk from penrith and blacktown bother? They're obviously not considered important enough by the AFL to have a team which is established in Greater Western Sydney. But eels i think the swans will be fine as atleast they have a team which can compete with most of the comp. GWS are light years away from that at the moment and so for them, being uncompetitive and stuck in a shoddy betwixt and between location is going to be a very dire situation for them indeed.

It is purely a stunt to get the swans fans and make it look as though they have support at GWS as you have mentioned. These basketcases have no chance of establishing a real fanbase. They will get the Sydney AFL fans like Beaussie. The AFL have done well to ensure all the 6 Skoda games are available for Swans Fans. They are all on alternate weeks to when Swans play.

Imagine the AFL scheduling games in NSW so the maximum number of AFL fans get a chance to watch the game live!

Plenty of AFL fans in Melbourne attend games other than their own team.

How exactly is Homebush Swans territory? Why would the AFL base a team at Blacktown and force fans from as far away as Campbelltown, Camden, Liverpool, Fairfield, Bankstown etc to travel out to a ground where 99% of the fans have to sit on the grass.

Of course they are alternate weeks fool. What would be the point of scheduling Swans and Giants games in Sydney on the same weekend? ](*,)
