The issue of the presence of a Year 0 however IS maths! To get to one you HAVE to start at zero. The number exists. What, there's no such thing is 0.5?

Numbering always starts from zero.
The first year is zero up until the first annversery, the first year, the first full year.
Under a year, it is usually then referred to as in months etc.
It's simple mathmatics. Don't get confused with wording.

The year 2000 was the START of the new millenium. The old millenium did end at midnight December 31 1999.

The first day of the new Millennium was 1 January 2001. The year 2000 was actually the final year of the previous Millennium. So, despite the fact that it was the year 2000, it was officially the 20th century for one more year.
