And if you're dating back to 08 I couldn't help but notice week 1 finals crowds of 15,193 18,252 18,343 and 19,227 in the NRL compared to AFL 71,653 76,703 37,685 and the swans match you refer to 19,127 which ia only 100 short of the highest NRL attendance for week one of the 08 finals. DOH!
#-o
yes ... we were playing Sydney Finals at suburban grounds back then .. most only holding 20K

meanwhile the Swans final was played in the 2nd biggest sporting venue in the country ..... & the crowd attracted would not have filled 1 suburban Sydney NRL venue ... 8-[
DOH .... DOH indeed

its rare for any finals crowds in either code to
" reach capacity "

the AFL plays its finals at bigger grounds & has more seats available
356K seats 270K fans attend
86K empty seats

the NRL had 208K seats available
124K were taken
84K sempty seats

same % of stadiums full
K

So you're saying if the NRL had stadiums that could hold the numbers they would get 90K or 75K to a match? #-o
Your kidding yourself raider. My point was quite clear that it was quite a large difference between supporters going to the finals.
You're arguements are invalid because you're trying to twist what i am saying into something that suits yourself

I think Raider makes a fair point, the Swans finals crowd of 2008 was more embarrassing than the Storm game last weekend. But this point doesnt change the fact that that Storm crowd was shiiiiiithouse and most probably fudged. Its pretty clear why. There was an AFL match going on at the same time and 5-10 thousand melb supporters obviously also support the AFL teams that were playing.

The game should have been scheduled at a different time.

Your onto something there King E! Why wouldnt they schedule the match at a different time? is it to battle the AFL in ratings and crowd numbers or they just felt that was the time to have it?

Swans fans are like league fans they are not turning up for a game when 78mils of rain happened on that day.

certainly not 90K or even 75K regularly for quite a while
we're still in the suburbs for a lot of our club games & still have this culture & mentality & it will take a while to overcome this.... Manly fans refused to budge out of their area last sat night to attend a final in the city .. culturally Sydneysiders & Melbournians are very different.
occasionally in the last few years we have cracked 75K for big finals outside our GF , this will become more regular .. now that the NRL has decreed that all NRL Finals in Sydney aren't to be played at suburban venues anymore
our finals attendances will continue to grow.... theres nothing surer

the NRL isn't going to change the McIntyre system to avoid the AFL
its how the works

1V 8 is the last game of the first week
thats the system
if it does clash with the AFL & its to the detriment of the crowd
so be it

Doesnt the title of this thread say "in melbourne"???
And nevermind the fact that even the Swans worst finals crowd in history was still much bigger than the fudged crowd for the Storm. Raider looks desperate here going back to 2008. Notice how he didn't mention the Swans final at ANZ Stadium last year. Wonder why?

How when it had been raining all day for the Swans final and there was no promotion of the game and yet it still got a much bigger crowd than the Storm? Add to that the Swans finished 6th and the Storm finished minor premiers. What you've said doesn't make sense at all.

We can all at least agree on that.

in a stadium with 50K more seats
& I don't recall another code playing a final across the road from the Swans at ANZ in 2008 with 90K in attendance .. do you beaussie ? :?>

also for a side that has been in Sydney 16 years longer then the Storm have in Melbourne & have had the hell promoted out of them on prime time TV for 25 Years ... the Storm have had none of this
the Swans crowd was barely 4K more 8-[

neither crowd was great
the Storm crowd was dissapointing
the Swans crowd given the above .... was downright pathetic

Beaussie the fact the swans game was in a mammoth stadium would have made being there with such a poor crowd on a finals night abysmal and an embarrassment. The atmosphere would have been much worse than the melbourne final even though there was more people.
