 I gotta say Raider has a point here. And beaussie has failed to acknowledge the massive drop in crowds. Instead reverted to the 'ba(n)dwagon' syndrome as his defence... very poor response beaussie :(

And yes I agree Raider, Soward is playing like a soggy potato with no mojo, what a mofo! I think him and the dragons are a waste of space in this years finals. Good riddance to the lot of those wankers!

I wish you would stop pretending to be an AFL fan. You're nothing but a suck job to Raider. Sickening :puke:

FFS how stupid are you throwball fans. When the Swans were getting crowds of 70k+ you throwball fans said the Swans fans were bandwagon, only on board because the Swans were successful on the field.

Fast forward to 2011 when the Swans lack on-field success yet still get bigger crowds than the top of the table Melbourne Storm, and you've got the hide to suggest the bandwagon effect for the Swans is now not a defence. You're all fucking ********. Still doesn't change the fact that Melbourne Storm have no bandwagon in Melbourne. Pathetic really for such a successful on the field team.

ahhhh ..... what has Swans crowds of 2003 got to do with their crowds being bigger then Storms crowds of 2011
lack of success ?
the Swans have missed the finals once since 2003 , played in 2 grand finals & won one
lack of success ... ah no, try lack of interest

the point here is are Swans crowds as big for marque games in 2011 as as they were in 2003 ?
is their average still this big
can they attract that sort of support today ?

answer to the 3 above Questions
a firm NO 8-[

what would be the reason for this ?
I've pointed out they've been a consistent finals team ... they've won a grand final .. the same numb as the Storm
but their support is vanishing

I think the suggestion of wise heads back in 2003 ... that the size of Swans crowds then were as a result of bandwagoners & a passing infatuation with viccy kicky
have turned out to be very true ... very true indeed

Losing for the past 6 years against the Pies would hardly mean the annual clash at Homebush is a marquee game guranteed a 70k + crowd like in earlier seasons. The Swans have become a very frustrating team to watch and yes whilst they may make finals, they bomb out straight away. I'm speaking here as a fan. You on the other hand Raider have NFI what you're talking about.

In anycase, despite the poor on field performances of the Swans, the AFL still attracts much bigger crowds than the top of table always in finals and grand finals Melbourne Strom/NRL in Victoria. Popularity contest... hmm there is no contest. Melbourne people hate Rugby League, prefering Rugby Union. The Melbourne Rebels don't have more members and bigger crowds for no reason.

then nominate the big annual event for the Swans then
& lets see if they're doing as well in 2011 as they were 10 .. 7.. 5 years ago ?

again .. poor performances :? .. nah not an excuse
they have had 1 losing season in the last 9... but their support continues to dwindle
they are shot ... umm 8-[ .. ducks
If this is whats happening when they win more games then they lose ... then they're next losing season is going be a sight to behold

How stupid are you. Of course on field performance affects crowd numbers. Not to mention the crappy weather all season for just about every Swans home game.

Just imagine what Melbourne Storm's crowds would be like if they were as hot and cold as the form of the Swans. The average crowd for the top of the table Storm is 13k. You get the picture and it ain't nice to contemplate an unsuccessful on field Storm outfit. Nasty.

they've gone no worse .. or better this year then last

crowds are down 10% this year
same as 2009 compared to 2010... down 10% despite a pretty similar year & there was no issues with weather last year

as pauline would say
" please explain "

Last year the Swans nearly made a premliminary final. This season we'll be luck to make the finals. Form has been up and down all season this year and very frustrating to watch. Not to mention a game plan that even Swans fans find difficult to watch. A game plan that sees the Swans always fail to beat anyone above them on the ladder. Takes the gloss of a blockbuster when even as a fan you feel your team has little chance of winning against the likes of Collingwood, Hawthorn, Carlton etc etc.

How you can say the Swans have gone no worse or better this season or since 2006 just goes to show you have no idea when discussing this subject matter.

bottom of the 8 in 2010
bottom if the 8 in 2011 ( likely) so H&A results near Identical ....for the last few years

swans have been gritty plodders .. ( that win ) for about 10 years
excuses about performances are a load of huey & you know it

the Swans are on the nose
as is AFL in general in Sydney .... , can barely support 1 team up here now .. , can't wait for another team to get in on the act
will be F'ing hilarious :_<> :(/

hmmmm .... in 2009 they finished 12th
one of the few occasions they missed the finals in the last 10 years
but they averaged 30,505

then as you point out above

in 2010 they were near a top 4 birth .. in contention etc
& averaged

30,675
ah... 8-[

gee they captured the imagination of Sydney last year didn't they :?
what lame excuses can be conjure up for this odd occurance ?

The Swans still remain the biggest sporting club in NSW with crowds, membership and sponsorship deals that are the envy of every other code. That will not change anytime soon and you certainly cannot say the same about the Storm in Melbourne.

in a a few years they won't
& in a decade they'll be back to where they were in 1995
