He's right. If the Swans are in the finals, ratings will rise.

You can laugh at that if you want, Raider. You are afraid of the AFL.
ratings will rise eh
of course they didn't last year with the swans in the finals

or the year before .. with the swans in the finals
or the year previous year before that when they were last in
& they're normal ratings are heading back to mid 1990 levels

but of course
they'll amazingly rise this year for no apparent reason 8-[ :?> :_<> :(/

And to rub salt into the wound;
From Beau's link

AFL Finals Total: 8,571,000
NRL Finals Total: 6,420,000

A ratio of 4 to 3!! That's a thrashing for you!!

Edit - Beau, do you have the TV ratings for the last RU World Cup?

Clearly you are choosing to ignore the facts as usual. Even with the flawed regionals counted, the AFL Grand Finals is the biggest tv rating event in Australia year after year. Go on, look at the figures. Most hilarious part is how desperate the NRL was in moving to a night grand final to increase ratings yet still can't beat a Saturday afternoon AFL grand final. Again we're back to which code has more national appeal. Clearly the answer is the AFL.

in the last 6 Years .. NRL GF V AFL GF .. its about 3 all , this article says as much
http://www.crikey.com.au/2009/10/05/nrl ... s-the-AFL/

& I think in one of those years .. it was State of Origin which beat all GF's .. game one I think ,
oh & nothing will beat the SOO III this year

& as for when we play our GF's ... it up to your backward stuck in the last centrury sport to move with the times & play a grand final at night
as almost every other sport on the planet does
we've moved on from quaint afternoon GF's that belong in the last millenia
don't blame us for being progressive in comparison to your stunted sport

Please do point out to us all where any NRL grand final in any particular year rated better than the AFL grand final that year. As we can all see from the following lists, you're lies have been exposed again.

Your code sold out if fans and tradition in the hope it would bring more tv viewers. As we can clearly see, it's not only upset the fans, it did not result in extra viewers to the stage where it rates better than a Saturday afternoon AFL grand final. That must be a real concern eh? But what about the regionals I hear you say. Take a look below and weep.

Oh and just to show how big the AFL grand final is particularly when the Sydney Swans are involved, take a look at the following list of the most watched shows. I note no NRL or Rugby League games made the list. Oh dear. :(/
For the most watched shows of the 20th century, it is impossible to give precise audience figures, so what follows is an approximate ranking, compiled by David Dale for The Sydney Morning Herald, using estimates from ACNielsen. The top three would have had audiences above 6 million in the mainland capitals; the bottom two had audiences close to 3 million.

1. Diana Spencer's funeral 1997 (9, 7, 10, ABC)

2 Olympic opening and closing ceremonies 2000 (7)

3 Wedding of Charles and Diana 1981 (9, 7, 10, ABC)

4 Cathy Freeman's Olympic gold run 2000 (7)

5 Olympic swimming events 2000 (7)

6 Olympic opening ceremony 1984 (10)

7 The Sound of Music 1977 (9)

8 Boxing: Rose v Rudkin 1969 (10)

9 The World Of The Seekers 1968 (9)

10 Roots mini-series 1977 (10)

11 Moon landing 1969 (9, 7, 10, ABC)

12 Royal Charity Concert 1980 (9)

13 AFL Grand Final 1996 (7) - Sydney Swans vs North Melbourne Kangaroos

14 The Seekers Down Under 1967 (7)

15 Olympics Day 7 1996 (7)

16 Commonwealth Games Day 7 1998

17 Olympics men's 1500m swimming final 1996 (7)

18 Friends final 1998 (9)

19 Holocaust mini-series, 1978 (7)

20 Homicide 1972 (7)

20 Homicide 1972 (7)

all metro
no regionals = rubbish til everyone is included

& tell me
have you noticed something about even these metro ratings of the last 10 years or so

the AFL was getting 2.4, 2.6 , 2.8 Million more then 10 years ago for their GF's in the 5 metro markets
I've seen lists where at the same time the NRL was getting 1.9.. 2 , 2.1 million etc
allowing for a couple of 3's...more recently the AFL usually getting 2.4 , 2.5.. 2.6
so not real growth .. almost none at all

the NRL is now getting 2.4, 2.5.. 2.6
up to a 50% growth
yes the NRL is a sport on the go .... while its competitor .. treads water

Again for the blind. Metro markets included through OzTAM and regionals included through ACNielsen. #-o
