The real story will only be told if the AFL and NRL grand finals are played and shown at the same time.

we haven't had a sat arvo grand final since 1980
why would we go back to something we've moved on from
no
we'll stick with wot works for us & what has us getting as many veiwers as we can
actually thats a 7pm kick off .. we've changed that back to 5pm
if it were 7pm still we'd of cracked 4Mill several times by now

but
If your happy enough to keep yr GF on sat arvo & get the ratings you do
do that ... but don't complain about another sport that has had the good sense to put theirs on when most people are home to watch it

Raiderdave, the reason why the AFL Grand Final is on a Saturday afternoon is because that's when the crowd at the game wants it. Crowds at games matter to the AFL. I am not convinced they are as important in the NRL. They moved from Saturday afternoon because they could not compete with the AFL.
they couldn't compete ? :?>
in 1980
there was no competition to our grand final .. or yours
no one knew much about either .. in the other state

but now in this TV age where mass audiences watch these " events "
its a real Dick Measuring excersise isn't it

we get the crowd & the ratings regardless to ours its a holiday weekend up here , it works well
& Bleating about looking after the " crowd " is fine if thats what you want to do , its your choice .. your the ones complaining when we beat you.
so your stupid sport needs to take a step forward ( seriously who hasn't moved to a night Grand final in any sport .. anywhere in the world )

cos we''re not taking a step.. backward

Dave, I suggest you check your history again. The AFL Grand Final was first transmitted live in Sydney the same year it was done in Melbourne. In 1977. And they got two for the price of one with the draw and the replay. Games started being played in Sydney in 1979, and the NSWRL saw the danger and got out of the way.

The AFL is not taking a backward step. It is expanding. The NRL is not.
I'd suggest you check your history .. it was the VFL .. not AFL Grand Final
& it was watched by about 15 people in Sydney on TV

& wots yr point
you think after only a few years the NSWRL moved their GF because they couldn't compete ...
it had been in the pipeline for 14 Years .. 1966 the first year football was played on sundays in sydney ...
ever since then it became the more popular of the 2 days for Sydneysiders , a progression to a sunday GF was a natural given for our very progressive game

don't flatter yourselves with statements you have no proof of
otherwise TPLG will remove your post

& your right
the AFL is not taking a backward step
its not taking a forward step either .. in fact its not taking steps anywhere

there was a replay in 1977 in your GF
in 2010... nothing has changed  8-[ :_<> :(/

The only thing wrong with Player's post was the reference to AFL when it was VFL.

Reality check - the NSWRL had a draw the same year, and another the following year. Footy was being played on a Sunday before 1966 down here.

The drawn grand final in our game is rare. In the VFL/AFL it has only happened three times since 1897. The replay is the correct way to sort it out in our game and shouldn't change. In thugby it makes more sense to go for extra time and the golden point, because draws are more likely.

AFL is taking steps forward because it's expanding. The game is taking risks. And it won't backfire as long as it is done right. The Suns will work out. The Giants might not - I admit that. But having the state government onside is a plus. We will have a side in Tasmania soon, and one in Canberra has to be next.

The NRL is not expanding. Teams in Adelaide and Perth are only dreams, and when only a small percentage of the city's population watches it's centre piece (SOO) it's just not going to happen. Where else in Australia will they go? They have nowhere because they are trapped by the Murray River and the western border.

Don't be silly TLPG. The NRL is controlled and operated by a media company and tv network. Tradition in the NRL like a Sunday afternoon grand final was killed off years ago despite the fans objections. That's what happens when your sport is owned by media interests.

we'll be " half " owned by media interests no longer by seasons end
the commission has been finalised today

& we'll revert back to a Sunday " Night " Grand Final as it provides the best spectacle & will reap 4 Million veiwers everytime
 ( gee, the way its going the AFL grand final will be lucky to get into the top 5 shows each year  )

people bleat about our GF not being on a sunday arvo... but still watch it nonetheless
the whineing comes mainly from silly old f@rts who are stuck in the 1970's
a bit like the AFL is full stop

tradition ....phhtt a term for losers out of touch with reality
