10 million more veiwers eh
so .......
yuz won the ratings for the year then ?
what
no ....!!!

How many more watched the RL rep games 15-17 million??
Cumulative viewers comparing AFL V RL/NRL
Regular season TV viewers: 9.3 million more for the AFL regualr season: NRL 114 million AFL 123 million ( AFL win 9.3 million) (see the australian article)
TV viewers RL(regular season + Rep games (15-17 million) V AFL games + preseason (5 million)+ T box viewers (estimate 5 million) RL 129-131 million AFL 134 million (AFL win 3-5 million)
Total viewers TV and at games in OZ see above + 3.3 million NRL + 6.8 million AFL fans at games RL 132-134 million AFL 141 million (AFL win 6.5-8.5 million)
Total viewers TV. mobile phones and at games in OZ: See above + 15 million estimate AFL phone viewers (1 million subs) RL 132-134 million AFL 159 million (AFL win by 25-27 million)
Total viewers TV,mobile phone and at games in OZ and NZ See about + 15 million to RL for NZ viewers, RL 147-148 million AFL 159 million (AFL win by 11-12 million)
A few made up figures but in my opinion they are quite conservative. On all of the above AFL wins in every catagory. In terms of hours viewed AFL wins by hundreds of millions of hours.
It should look more like this
NRL 136m Cumulative ratings rep season together AFL 123m NRL ahead 13m.....
NRL NZ sky a conservative 13m AFL Pres season 9.3m NRL ahead 15m....
NRL Toyota Cup on Fox 12.5m AFL nothing left...................NRL Ahead 27.5m and with less Games................................ =D> =D> =D> =D>
NRL 161.5M Viewers 1.3b-1.38b potentially for 1.035b Nine/Fox + 180m online/internet rights+ 100-180m NZ Sky. =D> =D> =D> =D> Well done commission you have shut these singlet flogballers traps for 5 years thank you.
AFL 132.3m Viewers 1.25b for TV rights/Internet online rights
Hours viewed means little, networks pay for eye balls on the screen not length of the telecast, NRL is worth more per hour anyways so your point is mute. Not even Close boys and Pies mate get of the crack pipe your attempt at adding up figures that do not exist are just getting pathetic now....

Many of your figures are for RL, not NRL.
Length of telecast means a great deal when determining the most watched sport on TV. The NRL need a 50% head start in the cumulative total to outdo the AFL given our audience watch for 50% longer

Oh lets not forget the way in which 7 code AFL games now which adds the the delusion of ratings improvements.
Have to agree to disagree on this one Eels.
Fair enough. We shall wait and see how the ratings for the simulcasting goes next year to get a better idea on were the ratings jump occurred, but one part we can agree on is the extra live games and extra game every week would have boosted the ratings.
I would agree the the extra game will help in the future but not at this stage due to the new teams being so weak the game itself has not reached its full impact yet (i could be wrong) In fact I would say 2 weak sides this year have made both the games they play in poor to watch. In a few years this should change however. I personally think it is the live games, especially the live friday night game which we have never had before (always in the past been one hour delayed often add filled and finishing after midnight). Maybe its novelty factor will wear off next year we will have to wait and see. In the past we could only get 4 games live (fox) Now we got all 9 games live (fox) and 3 of these also live on FTA. Simulcasting has reduced the ratings for FTA, however it would have been a lot more if the FTA games were not live.

HaHa I see two can play at that game.

Just a few quick questions is the Toyota cup played by NRL club players? Or are the players payed by the NRL? I assume the NRL owns the toyota cup and sells it to fox.

Oh let me make up the NRL money figures lets see
1025 million TV rights + 100 million online rights + 60 million NZ rights = 1.185 billion close to 1.2 billion you nearly made it.

7 didnt start coding games this year. They've coded AFL games for a number of years, so this was clearly NOT the reason for the increase in ratings
Simulcasting doesnt add more viewers

It splits the same audience into 2. Live games to Melbourne, and games at a more acceptable time of 7.30pm in each state added more viewers. For once Perth got to see games only delayed by 2 hrs instead of 3!
They seperated the much lower rating pre-match segment of the match this year. I know I don't turn my television on until a few minutes from the actual kick off. I dont sit through Gus and Joeys pre-match dribble, and I dare say Im not alone.
I reckon the gain from dropping 20 minutes of crap from your average ratings would be over 10%.

We're talking about the most watched sport on TV Dave! Get with the program. The AFL have it, easily, as you so eloquently demonstrated! =D> =D> =D>

Well in reality theyve only drop 10 minutes because last year They included 10 minutes pregame and now they exclude it. Are you telling me 10minutes of a 3 hr telecast would make 10% difference to the 140 minute segment?
Even if it did the NRL still have a significant statistical advantage by having a 2 hr program compared to the AFLs 2hr20minute game section.

Dave, if an average of 100 people watched 16hrs of program A over the weekend, and an average of 100 people watched 27 hrs of program B, which program was the most watched?

which program most likely had the highest peak audience, or more viewers?

The numbers and evidence is clear cut. Unfortunately Dave doesn't like to include real numbers. He prefers imaginary ones.

I love that they have to start using maths to convince themselves they got more.
If Rugby League rates even half as well as these ********* claim the nRL should have obliterated the media deal the AFL received. And they didn't. So either:
- AFL is worth more
nRL got walked over at the negotiating table
a combination of the two above.
