A few made up figures but in my opinion they are quite conservative. On all of the above AFL wins in every catagory. In terms of hours viewed AFL wins by hundreds of millions of hours.

Hours viewed means little, networks pay for eye balls on the screen not length of the telecast, NRL is worth more per hour anyways so your point is mute. Not even Close boys and Pies mate get of the crack pipe your attempt at adding up figures that do not exist are just getting pathetic now....

Length of telecast means a great deal when determining the most watched sport on TV. The NRL need a 50% head start in the cumulative total to outdo the AFL given our audience watch for 50% longer

Clearly not Pies, the simulcast allowed the AFL to have more live games and you just admitted that this is the reason for the ratings jump. The simulcast also adds more broadcasts, 9 games on Fox and 4 Live on FTA you also have a extra game every week so it is easy to see that these gains come from having the extra game every week and simulcasting.

Oh lets not forget the way in which 7 code AFL games now which adds the the delusion of ratings improvements.

Fair enough. We shall wait and see how the ratings for the simulcasting goes next year to get a better idea on were the ratings jump occurred, but one part we can agree on is the extra live games and extra game every week would have boosted the ratings.

I would agree the the extra game will help in the future but not at this stage due to the new teams being so weak the game itself has not reached its full impact yet (i could be wrong) In fact I would say 2 weak sides this year have made both the games they play in poor to watch. In a few years this should change however. I personally think it is the live games, especially the live friday night game which we have never had before (always in the past been one hour delayed often add filled and finishing after midnight). Maybe its novelty factor will wear off next year we will have to wait and see. In the past we could only get 4 games live (fox) Now we got all 9 games live (fox) and 3 of these also live on FTA. Simulcasting has reduced the ratings for FTA, however it would have been a lot more if the FTA games were not live.

They seperated the much lower rating pre-match segment of the match this year. I know I don't turn my television on until a few minutes from the actual kick off. I dont sit through Gus and Joeys pre-match dribble, and I dare say Im not alone.

I reckon the gain from dropping 20 minutes of crap from your average ratings would be over 10%.

Well in reality theyve only drop 10 minutes because last year They included 10 minutes pregame and now they exclude it. Are you telling me 10minutes of a 3 hr telecast would make 10% difference to the 140 minute segment?

Even if it did the NRL still have a significant statistical advantage by having a 2 hr program compared to the AFLs 2hr20minute game section.

Dave, if an average of 100 people watched 16hrs of program A over the weekend, and an average of 100 people watched 27 hrs of program B, which program was the most watched? which program most likely had the highest peak audience, or more viewers?

If Rugby League rates even half as well as these ********* claim the nRL should have obliterated the media deal the AFL received. And they didn't. So either:

  nRL got walked over at the negotiating table
