The fact is the AFL is going very well and promote the game well.

You seem to be making the implication that any sport can become number one by good governance
and totally ignore the fact that people have preferences.
Australian football has been extremely popular ever since it was invented.
Whilst Rugby rules football was initially more popular than Cambridge rules football
but British Association football soon left rugby for dead.
IMO there isn't too much wrong with rugby but here in Australia it's competing with
a superior product, a product that leads the world on a per head of population basis .
And the energy consumed in fighting AFL would be better spent elsewhere.

Depends on what criteria you use.
Soccer is by far the dominant participation sport in NSW.
NRL is prominant in the professional sports most notably in the ratings.
Qld has quite a mix and I wouldn't get too excited especially when you consider
the Lions outdrew the Broncos for 6 years.

AFL went on the expansion root 30 years ago ... And they promoted the game very well from a grass roots level . Nrl chucked storm into Melbourne without much thought ... No grass roots development at all until too late. Even now it's minimal.

Probably, but NRL in melbourne outrated AFL in Sydney. 400k for NRL GF vs 340k in Sydney for AFL GF (both averages from oztam). And that's without accounting for the obvious population advantage of Sydney (4.6 million vs 4.0million).

the argumenet was the how the AFL beat the NRL Grand final,

it must hurt so much interest interest in origin & none in the proper NRL comp
as i keep saying , people only pay interest in origin because of the State vs state factor, most people couldn't give a shit about League,
the amount of origon parties ive been to, where the only thing people know about league are what colour shirt the Marons where & what colour NSW wear,
every pub in NSW & QLD show the origin hence the good tv ratings, but the only thing watching them are poker machines,

all origin games can rate over 5 million as far as reality is, still no one will care about league, its because its the state of NSW vs QLD

That'd be because you're in victoria, of course people there wouldn't know what team is what. I have no clue about any AFL team except the swans. oh and collingwood is black and white just like the Western Suburb Magpies were. There's also a black and gold team in AFL but dunno who that is...

NRL is definitely stronger in victoria than AFL is in sydney, no one could give two flying fucks about the GF.

I'm always surprised how much you AFL fans know about NRL, the CEO is dave smith, lots of clubs and players. I don't know anyone who doesn't follow AFL that could name the same amount of people and teams in aussie rules including myself.
