finding the most watched sport on Australian TV is easy. NRL 113m for 2 hrs. RL 134M for 2 hrs. AFL 131M for 3hrs =D> =D>

Easy!
what & F our comp up completely like the VFL have ?

no thanks
we have the same high quality 16 team comp on TV
& we got it ... for more money then the VFL's 18 teams :-k

wow
what a disaster 2012 is turning out to be for the Victorian game
less money then the NRL for their media rights despite having a 753 Million dollar head start
& less TV veiwers then RL despite pulling every trick in the book to try & win the ratings battle

wow
what a nightmare
Hmmm, the AFL attendance went down by 350 k but ratings went up by 10 Million. Yep, how dissapointing

Meanwhile the NRL stagnated with a 1% increase. Next year they sold control of their comp to ch9
More lies from Marcus the ****......

Rep football =13% of the total ratings up %10
Fox ratings = 37% of total ratings, up 1.4%
FTA = 50% of the total ratings, up 0.5%

Now Xman do the maths........ RL as a whole up more then your bogus claim of 1%...................................

Ratings went up purely because of simulcasting...... =D>

PLUS

11 extra games &
WA & TAS regionals now counted as well

still 8 Million to go .. just to draw level with us
I mean

how would we go with 22 extra games from 2018 to 2022 :-k

VFL

Rep football in 2011 was roughly 13 million last year and about 15 million this year. The reporter from the Australian has already admitted that the Nrl competition had 113m. But what happens when he factors in rep football numbers?

And our growth, smaller though it may be, didn't involve the introduction of extra matches - the introduction of almost all live matches, nor was our numbers the result of a new coding system that inflated numbers.

In light of those 3 things, I think people like that Australian reporter , desperatly trying to make out that the figures represent some sort of achievment, are the ones running scared.
Yep pussycat totally correct about the coding on channel 7...

I still find the figures hard to believe. Every other sport has been effected by simulcast, there must be a reason for the extra viewers because the total viewers seem to be up around 30% even discounting regionals and given that the finals were live last year. It just doesn't make sense that there were that many people not watching then as soon as it's simulcast they start watching.
I might be able to shed some light - I have not been following this discussion closely.
My take on things is that the biggest difference between NOW and LAST YEAR as far as FTA is concerned is that the figure reported for last year's Saturday night game on TEN covers the time 7.30pm to 11.30pm AEST so includes post match. The actual game part of the ratings are not reported.

This year 7 split the ratings for the game into 3 segments. The game got 1,045,000, the pre-match 528,000 and post match 430,000. So the TEN figures are diluted.

The Foxtel 5 city only rating for the game was 343,000

suck it up losers. The AFL went up 10M, or 8%. The NRL only 1%.

AFL beat NRL easily.

AFL beat RL as the most watched sport because they had similar numbers but the AFL goes for 50% longer. Therefore it MUST be the most watched sport by definition! =D> =D> =D>

Ratings went up due to more live games. Maybe people got more Fox subs as well and watched more of the games that were not on FTA. But simulcasting doesnt increase ratings its just robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Clearly not Pies, the simulcast allowed the AFL to have more live games and you just admitted that this is the reason for the ratings jump. The simulcast also adds more broadcasts, 9 games on Fox and 4 Live on FTA you also have a extra game every week so it is easy to see that these gains come from having the extra game every week and simulcasting.

Oh lets not forget the way in which 7 code AFL games now which adds the the delusion of ratings improvements.

7 didnt start coding games this year. They've coded AFL games for a number of years, so this was clearly NOT the reason for the increase in ratings

Simulcasting doesnt add more viewers  It splits the same audience into 2. Live games to Melbourne, and games at a more acceptable time of 7.30pm in each state added more viewers. For once Perth got to see games only delayed by 2 hrs instead of 3!

How many more watched the RL rep games 15-17 million??

Cummulative viewers comparing AFL V RL/NRL
Regular season TV viewers: 9.3 million more for the AFL regualr season: NRL 114 million AFL 123 million ( AFL win 9.3 million) (see the australian article)
TV viewers RL(regular season + Rep games (15-17 million) V AFL games + preseason (5 million)+ T box viewers (estimate 5 million) RL 129-131 million AFL 134 million (AFL win 3-5 million)
Total viewers TV and at games in OZ see above + 3.3 million NRL + 6.8 million AFL fans at games RL 132-134 million AFL 141 million (AFL win 6.5-8.5 million)
Total viewers TV. mobile phones and at games in OZ: See above + 15 million estimate AFL phone viewers (1 million subs) RL 132-134 million AFL 159 million (AFL win by 25-27 million)
Total viewers TV,mobile phone and at games in OZ and NZ See about + 15 million to RL for NZ viewers, RL 147-148 million AFL 159 million (AFL win by 11-12 million)

A few made up figures but in my opinion they are quite conservative. On all of the above AFL wins in every catagory. In terms of hours viewed AFL wins by hundreds of millions of hours.

Fair enough. We shall wait and see how the ratings for the simulcasting goes next year to get a better idea on were the ratings jump occurred, but one part we can agree on is the extra live games and extra game every week would have boosted the ratings.

Im not sure how you think the ratings this year will prove anything. Exactly the same conditions will apply: simulcasting and live games
