Rep football in 2011 was roughly 13 million last year and about 15 million this year. The reporter from the Australian has already admitted that the Nrl competition had 113m. But what happens when he factors in rep football numbers?

And our growth, smaller though it may be, didn't involve the introduction of extra matches - the introduction of almost all live matches, nor was our numbers the result of a new coding system that inflated numbers.

In light of those 3 things, I think people like that Australian reporter , desperatly trying to make out that the figures represent some sort of achievment, are the ones running scared.

Yep pussycat totally correct about the coding on channel 7...

My take on things is that the biggest difference between NOW and LAST YEAR as far as FTA is concerned is that the figure reported for last year's Saturday night game on TEN covers the time 7.30pm to 11.30pm AEST so includes post match. The actual game part of the ratings are not reported.

This year 7 split the ratings for the game into 3 segments. The game got 1,045,000, the pre-match 528,000 and post match 430,000. So the TEN figures are diluted.

The Foxtel 5 city only rating for the game was 343,000

Clearly not Pies, the simulcast allowed the AFL to have more live games and you just admitted that this is the reason for the ratings jump. The simulcast also adds more broadcasts, 9 games on Fox and 4 Live on FTA you also have a extra game every week so it is easy to see that these gains come from having the extra game every week and simulcasting.

Oh lets not forget the way in which 7 code AFL games now which adds the the delusion of ratings improvements.

7 didnt start coding games this year. They've coded AFL games for a number of years, so this was clearly NOT the reason for the increase in ratings

Simulcasting doesnt add more viewers It splits the same audience into 2. Live games to Melbourne, and games at a more acceptable time of 7.30pm in each state added more viewers. For once Perth got to see games only delayed by 2 hrs instead of 3!

Im not sure how you think the ratings this year will prove anything. Exactly the same conditions will apply: simulcasting and live games
