Who won this one on 2013? Well I guess people will continue to argue about this for some time and this is what is the basis of this forum ... Mines bigger than yours. And people will continue to draw on one stat or another to support their argument.... Do you measure from the base or the top so to speak :)

Where the nrl comes close is Fta ratings .. Although the counting of regionals remains dubious, not that they don't count but just that there is no reliable way to measure. Hence why tv execs only go by metro. Once you add fox in though AFL do considerably well with ratings. Unfortunately fox don't give a city by city breakdown so it is hard to know each cities total figures for overall ratings. Nrl are now shown on gem into Perth and Adelaide which is a great move for them allowing people there some exposure. Whilst figures are very low there, they have no team and it is the first year ... So hopefully will grow over time and if Perth get a team .. Lets hope so for the sake of rl in this country. Melbourne figures for storm have also been good. I also read that AFL ratings are up 63 percent on last year in Sydney as well. So all going well there too.

So nrl v AFL ... The winner is ...... What ever code you follow... Cause it doesn't really matter.
well
one would assume that our nations biggest code .... would have the biggest game of the year wouldn't you say ?
stands can be full but the big ... big numbers come from our nations living rooms right ?

so...........fumbles n bumbles
biggest

well certainly the 2nd biggest game eh :?>

hmmmmm
3rd would be a given of course :\: :\: :\:

:-k

don't tell me they may not get 4th either .................

no.... noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

And the debate continues :). AFL must be so jealous of the nrl. Maybe the AFL heads should copy what the nrl are doing. That way they may be able to reduce those large crowds down to 16000, confine their sport to two states and have no or little presence in non traditional markets , have their tv ratings drop, and have their supporters in forums other than this one complaining of the decline of the game. Maybe by achieving like this and copying the nrl they can become the ummmm number 1 code ...,,....

3.6m on a Saturday afternoon is astonishing. The nRL could only dream of not selling out their sport to TV and achieving the ratings that the AFL gets.

What would be a figure the nrl would want given the Sunday night time slot comparatively to the AFL figures? If they get less or break even or even do slightly better that surely would be a poor sign? I'll be watching the nrl grand final though.

Could it be .... No it couldn't lol but read this on The Roar and noticed the author.

You guys can whinge all you want, but it’s your (our) fault. Not going to games. You can blame, grounds, tv, time slots, refs, advertisements etc….. all you want, but it doesn’t change the attitude.
Soccer is only going to go up, it may take decades, but it’s on the improve.
The AFL is one of the most ruthless and proactive sporting organisations in the world.
Yeah our governance is pretty poor, but if WE go to games, support our club REGARDLESS of their position, and show interest, then a lot will take care of itself and improve. But we don’t, so basically just get used to playing second fiddle to those other codes.

It is interesting that the general theme of nrl supporters on this site and others is that the NRL are in trouble. I also noted on another site them referencing RD .... Saying he needs to watch more tv's to get the nrl ratings up.

Hmm the only time theyve got 2.5m or so (without the storm) is when Qld teams were involved and Brisbane rated 700-900k. Do you think they raised the ratings somewhat? Brisbane have rated 500-600k for years now and this is unlikely to change next week meaning 2.5m is less likely.

And reported elsewhere
