Also, people talking about the massive drops in Fox ratings for NRL this year, around ~8%. That miraculously also coincided with the availability of the NRL iPad app, and digital rights for the new NRL deal are worth $150 million, the cost of a season of ipad streaming at 80 bucks for a season versus 70 a month on foxtel.

Re: AFL vs NRL grandfinal TV viewer predications.. who will
So fox would not be affected in AFL, but since it only came out july or so for NRL the release of the app would lead to a decline in fox viewers as they would watch on the ipad from then on.Xman wrote:Can't remember, most of the season I think.pHyR3 wrote:When did that come out for AFL on ipad?Xman wrote:Fox footy is on ipad too. A comparable game during the year was the Essendon v Geelong game which had:
Thats 620k from regionals and foxtel. The finals delivered foxtel ratings of 400k. Therefore the figure should be near 700-750k, not 150khttp://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/3aw-footbal ... 2jjhj.html
Friday night’s blockbuster between Geelong and Essendon drew the biggest Friday night football TV audience in AFL history, since the Oztam ratings began in 2001.The match had a total audience of 1.545 million viewers.
So, what was the breakdown?
From Media Week Twitter:
"Fri TV #AFL Total FTA 925k: Seven 745k (Mel 622k Ade 122k) 7mate 180k (Syd 28k Bri 39k Per 114k) #AFLCatsBombers"
Fri STV #AFL #AFLCatsBombers 309k
So 1234k. Therefore the regionals were 311k

Okay, 620k regionals and foxtel. A gross overestimate since you took those stats from the "biggest friday footy audience since 01" Add that to 800k and you get 1.45mil. ANDDDDDD an nrl regular season match STILL beat an AFL final or equaled it. Not very flattering either way.

Re: AFL vs NRL grandfinal TV viewer predications.. who will
8% of people dropped foxtel for ipad? Got figures to back this up? I'd say any reduction would be countered by the fact more games were shown in prime time hours like Sunday night, which almost always rate higher than afternoon games.pHyR3 wrote:So fox would not be affected in AFL, but since it only came out july or so for NRL the release of the app would lead to a decline in fox viewers as they would watch on the ipad from then on.Xman wrote:Can't remember, most of the season I think.pHyR3 wrote:When did that come out for AFL on ipad?Xman wrote:Fox footy is on ipad too. Re: AFL vs NRL grandfinal TV viewer predications.. who will
I quoted it to compare the audience size of a big home and away game to a final. They were similar numbers metro numbers so it only makes sense the regionals were also similar. So no, the NRL game did not beat that AFL finalpHyR3 wrote:Okay, 620k regionals and foxtel. Err, similar numbers? So 500k Melbourne = 622k Melbourne???? Yeah, just inflate your numbers by 20%. I know you need it.
