It's why Bega, the largest city on the Sapphire Coast, doesn't have a team in the Sapphire Coast AFL anymore. The local thugby morons stole the goal posts preventing them from playing. That's what I was told at Pambula last weekend while I was chatting about the history of footy in the region.

AFL hails court decision against Optus

Friday's decision was a joint victory for the AFL and NRL, which were partners in the legal battle against Optus.

The AFL sold its five-year mobile and internet broadcast rights to Telstra for $153 million last year, while the NRL is still in negotiations over its next mobile broadcast rights.

Friday's decision denied Optus the right to appeal a ruling against it made by the full bench of the Federal Court in April.

This should really help the NRL with the 3 FTA games to get the max money possible. Optus wont be able to steam the games live on phone apps. A good result for the NRL.

The correct result all round. The reality is that the core transmission remains TV, no matter what either Telstra or Optus (or any other provider come to that) says about it when it comes to the usage of mobile apps and the Internet for viewing. That costs, whereas there is the FTA option for regular TV. Costs nothing. The minute money is involved with specifics (ie specific downloads), the copyright scenario changes. Optus's position on this is BS and can never hold up as long as TV exists - whether it be FTA or pay. Optus's actions at present amount to a version of piracy, and that's what they don't get. I doubt they'll get anywhere with the Law Reform Commission.

It's now abundantly clear Channel 9/Foxtel were stupid to pay what they did for the NRL.

AFL - Week 1 Finals - Total - 4,906,000

NRL - Week 1 Finals - Total - 3,021,000

Massive victory in viewer numbers and crowds for the AFL over the weekend.

'Australia's Game', that much is obvious. :thumbleft:

And that result is super bad for a game that is better on TV than live (thugby)!!

Therefore it is a great result for common sense!

You serious?

The fear of 'Australia's Game' from RL types in NSW never ceases to amaze me.

I'm serious, mate. That's what I was told. This was back in the 80's I should point out, but it's why Bega doesn't have a team - and places like Batemans Bay, Tathra, Merimbula, Pambula, Bermagui, Narooma and Eden do. Not to mention Cooma who now play in the Canberra comp.

whaaaaaa
whaaaaaa

of course the TV execs know the pay ratings included in these above VFL figures are the stuff of a Disney Fairy Tale
when this is considered along with the regional veiwers ... the nations numb one game on TV ( the NRL) wins by about 500K .. like it always does

perhaps thats why they gave us the big $$$
they know the truth bearsy :-k

Vicky Kicky is about as popular as continually jamming ones nutz in a door in that part of the country

Then how come it's so popular in the other places I mentioned, Raider? Do me and everyone else a favour and take your hate and lies elsewhere. You still haven't apologised for your major lie about your daughter being forced to play Auskick. If you have a daughter that is!

So in thirty years the AFL crew could not organize 4 pieces of wood? The game probably disappeared due to the fact they were idiots.

They would have been proper goal posts, not just four pieces of wood. And it didn't just happen once either.

The game didn't disappear. The people in Bega most likely shifted to Tathra, Merimbula and Pambula where the game is strong. Pambula's venue is great by the standards of venues supposedly outside football heartland.
