Former Richmond great Matthew Richardson and ex-Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse were **** those echoing North coach Brad Scott's comments after Hunt's 16-possession performance in the Suns' loss to the Kangaroos on Saturday.

"Anyone who has criticised Karmichael Hunt over the journey should be eating their words and should be apologising to him because, on that performance, he's a bona fide AFL midfielder," Scott said.

Ah Xman lets get this straight. Khunt is currently the 18th best player in the GC squad? And thats in a squad where he's one of only 11 that have played 5 games? That's pretty shite.

Secondly do you think I will stand in awe of some dillbag coach of northmelbourne? I'm sorry but I am not the type to suck up the BS of AFL dingbats who think they know what they're on about. Khunt deserves all the criticism he got because...he's shiiiithouse! Its plain and simple, the guy had an absolute shiiithouse season last season and this season, bar perhaps 2 games where he appears to have had ordinary games which causes dingbats like the Northmelbourne coach and xman et al to blow a load. Whoopdidoo the guy got a few posessions. This does not mean the AFL should be lauded for throwing 3 million at the golddigger for the next 3 years. As i've said before, he's done his promo work in the first year.

Hunt wins approval from AFL heavyweights

AFL heavyweights from across the country have passed judgment -- rugby league convert Karmichael Hunt has established himself as a legitimate AFL player.

A week after he racked up a career-high 21 touches against Brisbane, Hunt collected 16 disposals against the Kangaroos on Saturday, which prompted North Melbourne coach Brad Scott to declare the former Brisbane Bronco deserved an apology from some sectors.

"Anyone who has criticised Karmichael Hunt over the journey should be eating their words and should be apologising to him because, on that performance, he's a bona fide AFL midfielder," Scott said.

Those comments were echoed by the man who played on him, Kangaroos captain Andrew Swallow who declared Hunt had improved 10 times on last season.

"He's (Hunt) a 10-times better player than what he was," Swallow said.

"The way he's attacking the footy now and the way he's reading it, it's a credit to him."

The once vocal critics of Hunt are now fawning over him as his confidence in the engine room increases by the week.

As well as winning the ball, his awareness, decision making and lateral movement is worrying opposition sides.

Hunt may be looked at by the match review panel today after a high bump on Swallow, who left the ground dazed before soon returning.

Swallow was quick to praise Hunt and said he had no issue with the accidental bump.

"He goes hard at the footy and he's got a big body and he throws it around.

"He's a really fair player. I have no issues with him."

Suns coach Guy McKenna is certain Hunt has taken his game to a new level.

"He's an amazing person -- a very driven person. He knows he was probably 600th or 700th player in the (AFL) list, probably our 50th player at one stage too," McKenna told the Seven Network's AFL Game Day yesterday. "But he's fought his way into our midfield. We talk about the blink factor -- how tough it is in there -- he just doesn't blink."

Thanks for this one beaussie. Again we have only one or two matches where this bloke has legitimately performed to the level of a standard (not 3million dollar) AFL player and everyone goes nuts. Quite unbelievable really. I think we should wait for some consistency here before jumping to silly conclusions because, as i said, the sun shines out of a skunks arse some days.

In all this though I must admit. I have always said RL players are more skillful overall than AFL players. You will never see an AFL player converting to RL and having ANY success at the top level. RL player's speed, strength, toughness and agility gives them the edge and this all correlates nicely with Khunts 2 good games where he was able to 'get many touches' and 'put big hits on' and 'move laterally and win the ball well'. No suprises here I must say, but have we got any footage of him taking a contested mark yet? What about his kicking game? I certainly havent heard any accolades concerning these two fundamental skills of the game. 3 million bucks and a potential superstar not given the opportunity to play... dear oh dear oh me

As an AF expert with international experience you should know the KH is doing well.
Seems you're criticising him for not being a superstar yet.
Again, his football contract is modest.
Lots of footballers have huge non playing incomes.

There are 22 players on a team. There are 44 players (or so) in a club. Is K Hunt the worst? Not by a long shot!

K Hunt also does a lot of intimidation work like heavy but legal hits on the other teams midfield. These important parts of his game do not show up on any stat sheet but are invaluable.

So we are to believe you over a champion ex-AFL player and coach?

At the start of the season, Karmichael Hunt claimed he finally felt like an AFL player.

Now he reckons he is playing like one - and some of the game's biggest names agree.

But the man who became the first NRL convert to AFL reckons a "chip on the shoulder" will ensure he never stops striving to be better.

Hunt could have been wearing his former Brisbane NRL jersey, so bruising are some of the hits he's becoming renowned for at the Gold Coast.

It prompted legendary Hawthorn hardman Dermott Brereton to tweet last weekend: "Karmichael Hunt might be the most feared player within the Gold Coast Suns".

And it's not just his fearless attack on the ball that has turned heads - his drive has prompted Suns assistant and ex-Essendon premiership player Dean Solomon to compare Hunt with James Hird.

"He's a rare athlete. It's a big call, but he's up there with some of the athletes I played with, like Hirdy, the way they drive themselves," Solomon told SEN radio on Wednesday.

"They go above and beyond to get the best out of themselves."

While Hunt agreed he was now a "legit" AFL player, the former Test rugby league fullback was hardly satisfied, regardless of the kudos he's received.

"All of those type of comments are pretty nice but all I can worry about is improving," Hunt said on Wednesday.

"I have a chip on my shoulder. I approach every day trying to get better. I will have that attitude until I retire.

"That's how I get the best out of myself. It makes sure I don't get complacent.

"I am satisfied (with progress) but I have a long way to go."

While Hunt's hits have been impressive - just ask Essendon's Angus Monfries - he expected to knock more "off their feet" once he was able to get his timing right.

But just like in the NRL, Hunt was mindful of the head-high tackle.

"You've got to show a duty of care to your opponents, particularly the head region," he said.

"If someone's lower than me and their head's in the way, I'll look to get out of the way.

"But if it's a 50-50 ball, I'm going to go after it.

"If I make contact with them, that's what the tribunal's for but, hopefully, I don't have to get into too many of those instances."
