Slightly of topic , but why is your opening match a week before the rest of your Round? Are you planing on making a big splash with your ratings early before the big fade off again this year?
AD answered that Q on fox footy. The AFL need access to the MCG to start the season, and we cannot get access from the MCC until the cricket season finishes. Why I hear you ask? Well two of our games this week will draw between 70 and 95k so we don't want to deprive our 650k members. :P

I think you may find that ratings figure is under what we will get both Thursday and Friday night this week. Saturday night is not the best for ratings overall, and a game involving some of our larger teams will result in a much larger audience.

Yes, thats probably right . Just like last year year . But the fade will come , the lopsided scorelines - the tanking will soon follow.

Friday night ratings in Sydney this year will once again out rate Melbournes

Well for the first time in AFL history the AFL will be consistently live into Melbourne at 7.30pm. It will be delayed into Adelaide by 30 minutes and delayed into Perth by 2 hours (I'm pretty sure). Sound good huh? :-k well it's an improvement on what we've ever had and at least it's also on foxtel. But it has 2 more disadvantages compared to the NrL:

- we won't be targetting our entire 7million city audience with 2 games like the NRL do. This would be like us playing collingwood v WC and Adelaide v Brisbane every week, with them live in to each market.

- We don't adjust our schedule to make the games the best possible contest.

And you know what, I bet we still win our fair share!

Sure did. The biggest clubs by far are Carlton, collingwood, essendon, Richmond, hawthorn, westcoast and Adelaide, as far as ratings go.

Do you see them played every Friday night??

For ratings the best match up for the AFL would be interstate v Melbourne club match, yet this is uncommon.

The worst teams are Melbourne, Stkilda, bulldogs. Do you notice they get Friday nights too? Yes the previous years finalists get more games on Friday the next year but this is not flexible. If a team drops off they still get fn games which of course rate lower.

So let have a look at the first 9 weeks of the NRL this year. Yep, the broncos all 9 weeks! #-o

There's no hypocrisy here champ. Just blatant favoritism by the NRL and Ch9 to the broncos, much to the detriment of your struggling clubs. Last year the Broncos played 17 FNs of a possible 26! In th last 4 seasons the Broncos were shown on FN 61 times! #-o

The Broncos represent an entire city population of 2 million people, the most of any NRL or AFL homeland club by at least double!

Last year collingwood played 6 FNs of a possible 22.

The Broncos game is usually played to the Qld market, as you readily admit they have the largest supporter base and the most successful of the Qld teams. Qld have only 3 teams and one of those prefers to play Saturday nights. The Gold coast get games but they finished wooden spooners last year so Ch.9 doesnt have a lot of altenatives. It's no different to your WA audience being able to watch Freemantle every week on FTA.

As I Said, Brisbane are 1 of just 3 Qld clubs. So being shown 61 times to the Qld audience in the last 4 years pales into insignificance next to the dominance collingwood has received on Frday Night. There are 10 sides in Melbourne and Collingwood have been shown in the Friday night timeslot on 28 occasions. Was this there great bussiness plan that has turned them into a power house  Dont tell me these clubs with 4, 5 & 6 matches are the clubs relying on handouts - the very deffinition of a hyporite. [-X

No Hypocracy :D yeah, tell that to Melbourne just 6 Games in 4 years , While Collngwood get 28. The Swans havent had a Friday night game in 4 years.

I guess it makes it lot easier to do your draw 12 months in advance when you have such a lopsided competition

OMG!

Showing the broncos 17 of 26 FNs is completely different to showing Collingwood 6 times in 24 weeks. How is this even an argument?? #-o

Showing the Broncos on FN is totally different showing Fremantle in Perth on Sunday. FN is by far the biggest rating game time, it gets the biggest exposure and gives the biggest benefit to the team. Your code repeatedly shows the one team that will give them the biggest ratings boost and then says "look at how many people watch our game". Then the non broncos games rate like crap. :?

The AFL tend to schedule teams that were the most competitive clubs from the year before, a bit like your code does with flexibility, but ours is set in stone from December. Teams like Melbourne have been poor on field for some years and don't get the big stage as much. Teams like st Kildare, who haven't got a big following, get a decent number of Friday nights because fans want to see the better teams play.

This is totally different to showing the broncos for 3/4 of your FNs. [-X

The swans issue has nothing to do with ratings. they actually rate well when shown because it targets two audiences, but prefer to be scheduled on Saturday or Sunday for crowds.

Here is some good news for NRL pussycat, finally showing all 3 FTA games on Gem into melbourne.

This will make the ratings gap even bigger for NRL.

I'm happy they are shown. We can have a good laugh every week, like we do about their attendances.

I wonder whether the NRL will register at all in Perth on GEM since Sunday got 20k for a live game on Ch9.
