Re: Brisbane Stadium - Victoria Park
great news here
only a moron or a snake oil salesmen with an agenda thinks Victoria park is a good idea
Bid to heritage list Victoria Park and thwart any stadium
The Queensland Heritage Council is considering an application for Victoria Park, also known as Barrambin, to be protected from any development that would undermine its historical significance to Brisbane.
Dr Neil Peach, who represents a Spring Hill community group, has applied to have a vast area of the park added to the heritage list.
The application provides the extensive history of the area, including its use as a golf course, and notes Brisbane City Council’s more recent master plan.
The only reference to a stadium is that it was proposed by the Quirk review and “rejected by the Queensland government”.
However, that was Labor, and the LNP government has come under renewed pressure to use the park to build an oval stadium as a centrepiece for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
An expert panel is currently reviewing the venue plan. While Olympics boss Andrew Liveris is open to the Victoria Park option, even though Premier David Crisafulli has previously ruled out any new or additional stadium site, the terms of reference allow the review panel to make the final call.
Submissions on the heritage application are due by February 17, only weeks before the review panel will report back to government.

Re: Brisbane Stadium - Victoria Park
said snake oil salesmen ...
no doubt the Brisbane Lord Mayor is on the take from developers to get cheap land ...
what a sleazy disgusting pile of puke this Victoria Park plan is , people simply won't stand for this type of corruption & its no surprise of course that the dodgiest sport on the planet is up to its neck in this vile plan
Former Deputy Mayor David Hinchcliffe:
The Brisbane Olympic Committee is already in support of Victoria Park, as is Adrian Schinner, the lord mayor who before the Council election in March 2024 said he supported Victoria Park staying a park and implementing his master plan. Then straight after the election, he changed his tune and supported Stadium development. The proposal is for three stadiums not one and it’s supported by big sport and big business – swimming Australia, cricket Australia, AFL, the Courier Mail and Rupert Murdoch and a coven of Brisbane developers. Developers love the idea because as you can see from the proposal currently before the hundred day review committee, a large slab of the top of the park will be bulldozed to make way for private high-rise residential towers. Be afraid… Be very afraid!

what sport gets a 5 billion dollar stadium for 20 uses a year fwed ?
thats not legacy, thats lunacy
want a concert ? , go to the fucking 65K seat Suncorp !!
its bigger & better & there is no better venue centrally located . & its all but built.
all the wankfest arguments don't stack up on any level ....
cricket & AFL can play at the budget stadium that will be erected for the Olympics at Mt Gravatt , or they can stay at the gabba that will eventually get some lipstick , & thats all thats required

one stadium ....one... that wouldn't be built in this day & age under that arrangement because there would be no benefit to the private investors
Like I said fwed , theres a reason these arrangements are not made
Docklands was built relatively cheaply 28 years ago , $460 mill
about a bill in todays money ,
& the investors got their return on such a small investment ...
the private input for this olympic stadium is in the order of 50% , or 3.5 billion
Now the last thing CA & the fumbling mess from Vicdopia wants is the venue they play at in the future , to be privately owned because they will pay through the nose. They pay next to nothing to play at the GABBA atm , they will be raped at a venue half owned by private companies.
These private companies are businesses & have share holders , & expect a return on their spend. They will also expect huge concessions on all the land for developments around the stadium where they will make more money , tax breaks ... cheap land ... essentially screw QLD tax payers
This is why Govts build stadiums
This is why sports want govts to build them too
now all these bubble dwelling fumbletard plonkers getting half a chub about private investors sharing the cost of these 7 billion dollar stadium plans need to unzip that bubble & join the rest of us in the real world
it aint happening![]()

Queensland's premier has distanced himself from his pre-election pledge there would be no new stadium for the Brisbane Olympic Games under an LNP government.
The billion-dollar stadium debate has raged since the Gabba was first selected in 2022, before the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre took its place.
It's not yet known where the event will be held, with an independent panel reviewing Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games infrastructure due to report to the state government early next month.
In an interview with the ABC, Premier David Crisafulli would not guarantee there would be no new stadiums.
"The review needs to be done free from political interference. They should have the right to be able to do that," Mr Crisafulli said.

Re: Brisbane Stadium - Victoria Park
Kirk reveals another Brisbane 2032 plan
Coliseum Coliseum

Brisbane-based architect Kirk has put forward another option for a main stadium for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics with its Gabba West solution.
Kirk said it had the opportunity to present the proposal for a new 60,000 seat ‘Gabba West’ stadium to the Brisbane 2032 – 100 Day Review Committee.
The proposal looks beyond the 2032 Games, delivering Brisbane a modern stadium while utilising the existing Gabba Stadium for warm-up tracks and expanded spectator events.
At the conclusion of the Games the historical site would be returned to the city to deliver over 2,500 apartments, community green space and expansion of the East Brisbane State School by 2042.
The Kirk proposal taps into the site’s generous transport infrastructure, seamlessly integrating with the Cross River Rail and South-East Busway while being within a 15-minute walk of 8 major central rail and busway stations including Southbank, Kangaroo Point and the CBD, the company said.
It is not constrained by tunnel infrastructure, allowing future residential, commercial and public developments to proceed unimpeded with the historical Gabba Park at their heart.
We see a new Brisbane Stadium as a City Shaping opportunity – leveraging key infrastructure and reinvigorating an unrealised central Woolloongabba precinct.
Richard Kirk, founder and director of Kirk, said: “The proposal demonstrate(s) that Gabba West, the Government owned land to the west of the existing stadium, is a sensible solution for the Brisbane Olympic Stadium.
“Gabba East is the site currently occupied by the existing stadium, while Gabba West maintains and enhances the Gabba precinct as our primary sporting and events hub whilst also harnessing the almost complete Cross River Rail Woolloongabba Station.
Kirk said their proposal to effectively duplicate the Gabba avoids the emotional issues of vacating East Brisbane State School and the displacement for cricket and the AFL.

as they should , what a fucking dick !!
TBH , he should never have said no new stadiums .... they were always going to have to build something ,he should have said a new venue on a budget , no bling ... no bells & whistles .... a venue that will get the job done for the olympics , & service cricket & the fumbles & bumbles in QLD for the next 30 years.

Re: Brisbane Stadium - Victoria Park
As I predicted ,
any attempt to build new multi billion dollar stadiums in parks in central Brisbane will be met with a reaction not seen before in this country.
It would be political suicide & give labor cannon fodder til the next election & almost certainly see them removed from Govt.
It will be very interesting to see what happens.
https://www.theaustralian.com.au/subscr ... DAYNOV2024
Former Queensland premier Campbell Newman has put the state government on notice that he will conduct lawfare against the new Olympic stadium if it goes to Brisbane’s “Central Park”.
"Mr Newman is on an unlikely unity ticket with his old political nemesis, Annastacia Palaszczuk, to scratch inner-city Victoria Park as an option for the $3.4bn-plus build.
"Mr Newman said Brisbane had less green space in and around the CBD than other capital cities and could not afford to lose any of the 64ha reserve. Mr Schrinner has described Victoria Park as Brisbane’s answer to New York’s famed Central Park.
"Mr Newman said the Gabba, because of its public transport services, or another proposed stadium site at Hamilton Northshore on Brisbane River were a better fit."
"Mr Newman, who was a successful Brisbane lord mayor before he switched to state politics in 2012, said the Save Victoria Park campaign was gaining traction and ready to take the fights to the streets and courts, if need be.
"In a warning to Mr Crisafulli, he said: “If you think Victoria Park will be easy, think again.”
