Three or four AFL clubs based in nsw with the same support and impact as the swans will create a local snowballing synergy that will turn the tide towards Sydney becoming a serious AFL town.( a few years, culls and AFL chiefs away )
It may never be the dominant code but the gap will narrow.
For gws to be part of this scenario they will need a facelift and reinvent themselves with a more enticing moniker.
Your on drugs if you think Sydney could sustain 4 AFL clubs. They are 1 and a half clubs at the moment. GWS play half their games in Canberra to stay sustainable.
AFL rates so poorly on television in Sydney that it shown on channel 7s least popular channel 7mate.
Your AFL footy show is shown at midnight and the AFL Sunday footy shows have been canned in Sydney.
AFL is niche sport in Northern States at best. Well behind Soccer and Union.

Never said Sydney could sustain 4 AFL teams, just painting a scenario in which you could answer yes to the threads question, wishful thinking ! At the moment my answer is that Sydney is not quite an AFL town, would be great though if we could all love the one sport ( AFL ) with equal passion.

Sorry but I can't ever see people all loving a sport which rewards stupidity. Like points when you miss a shot at goal.
Or being allowed to constantly drop the ball and play on.
This is why AFL has never grown as a professional sport outside Australia.

Just like that
We're investing $20 million to help rejuvenate the Royal Hall of Industries at Moore Park. This iconic building will become the headquarters for the Sydney Swans and NSW Swifts netball team. I’m also pleased the Hordern Pavilion will be retained as a live music venue. #NSW – at Royal Hall of Industries

Sydney Swans secure new home for HQ & Community Centre in Moore Park
This project represents a very significant investment with $65 million to be spent on the initial development across both buildings and the plaza, along with an additional $15 million maintenance plan to preserve the buildings over the course of the 27-year lease.

You gotta giver it to the fumblers. They've got their snouts forever in the public money trough and no one blinks and eye.
They must have lobbyists full time stalking politicians for favours and kick backs all over the country. They're dead set kings of the handout!!! The incredible thing is no one in the media let's out a whimper.

CLOVER’S PLAN TO BANISH CHOOK CHAMPS
The Roosters are at the centre of a turf war with mayor Clover Moore
over a plan to move into a temporary training facility.
Clover Moore battles to keep premiers making temporary base in contested area
SEPTEMBER 21, 2018
THE NRL champion Sydney Roosters face being banished to an SCG basement if Lord Mayor Clover Moore gets her way in an all-in brawl about a patch of bitumen.
The Roosters are at the centre of a turf war waged by Ms Moore over their plans to move into a state-of-the-art $5 million temporary training facility in a bus carpark hidden away at the Entertainment Quarter.
They must make the move as their HQ at Allianz Stadium is being knocked down and rebuilt at a cost of about $730 million. The Roosters celebrate victory during the presentation ceremony after their grand final defeat of Melbourne Storm last week.
The new training facilities, including a gym, lockers, lounge and theatre, would be paid for by the SCG Trust, which is responsible for the move.
But the Lord Mayor is set against the proposal and is trying to force the issue to a Development Planning Panel, saying the land must be kept for public use.
A senior government planning source said this could delay the move by at least three to six months, throwing the Roosters’ 2019 preparations into chaos.
The Saturday Telegraph can reveal the Lord Mayor is trying to rally support, which would send the team into disarray as it bids to defend the NRL title it secured last week against Melbourne Storm.
In a letter to supporters she decries the “wasteful stadium proposal and misuse of public land” and urges people to copy their submissions to Planning Minister Anthony Roberts and the SCG Trust.
If she is successful the club will have to resort to a plan B proposed by the Trust — moving to an old basement at the SCG before hopefully moving to the hi-tech demountable at a later date.
“Lord Mayor Clover Moore is opposed to the Entertainment Quarter becoming private corporate headquarters for elite sporting groups,” a spokeswoman for Ms Moore said.
“The Entertainment Quarter is public land.”
A statement from the Roosters emphasised their century-long ties to the area. “The Roosters have called the Moore Park precinct home since the first year of rugby league in 1908 — and we are the only club to have played every season of rugby league in Australia,” the statement said.
Ms Moore’s bid to crash-tackle the NRL big boys’ plans has the Chooks in a flap, with a Roosters spokeswoman saying the temporary facility was “vital for our NRL and NRLW teams to prepare for season 2019 and beyond”.
The Roosters have to be out of Allianz Stadium by midway through next month and the spokeswoman said the club needed its move confirmed “as quickly as possible so we can be given the best possible chance to defend our NRL title”.

Yes Sydney is now an AFL city, all the stats clearly show us that it's clearly the number 1 code in the city and lets be fair, the state. Nothing comes close to it! Matter of fact, you could add all the other sports together and they still wouldn't come close to the AFL in Sydney, it's just that good.
