Hey idiot, the SANFL OWN the Power at present!! And they got an advance from the AFL to stay alive until the Football Park deal is done! When something needs something, the AFL would do it because they care about their competition - unlike the NRL!

Chuck in Port and Demons and they have a huge problem.

NRL has the storm only who are loosing anything near these 4 AFL clubs.

Black hole clubs for the AFL and NRL.

1. GWS 150million over 5 years. Issy Falou 6million
2. Suns 150million over 5 years. Karmicheal hunt millions
3. Port i hear are loosing 7 million or so PA.
4. Demons are loosing about 7 PA.
5. Storm are loosing about 7 PA.

Feel free to add to this blackhole list, i am unsure if there are any bigger then these 5.

That is the order of the highest black holes in the AFL and NRL

AFL 1.250m minus 300million for GWS 6m for issy falou over 5 years, Suns karmicheal 6m over 5 years, Port handouts 35m over 5 years, demons 35m over 5 years handouts = 868million.
NRL 1.025million + NZ sky 100m appox + 150m for internet rights - The Storm 35million over 5 years = 1240million.
I think the Demons are making money, I expect they will post a profit or at worst a slight loss this year. I think that Port were about 7 million in debt total. But im not sure if the AFL bailed them out. I think I heard something about the AFL helping them out with this in the news. No doubt they will make a couple million loss this year again, however they will come good again with better ladder position and the move to Adelaide oval. The Suns offically made a profit last year. With an average crowd of about 17K? they make a nice profit from the stadium deal they have. You could argue that with set up costs they lost money that is for sure. However the set up costs are a one off payment and it should be mostly downhill from here. The Giants are a bit of a worry. They had good sponsership this year however their crowds were overall poor in my opinion. They will make a loss however I expect it to be a couple million at most, which would be covered by the AFL future fund with ease. This is all second hand information and the best way to check this is to look at the clubs end of year statment from last year and the one for this year will be comming out early next year.
I am sure Port were so far in debt that the SAFL had to bail them out to the tune of $27million, worse then our Titans.

Suns might have made a slight profit, but Demetrio still revised the figure from 150m to 220m at a minimum to keep these 2 clubs alive.

http://www.smh.com.au/AFL/AFL-news/gws- ... 23ktu.html
The Giants - like all clubs - will continue to be subsidised by AFL headquarters. The chief executive, Andrew Demetriou, said the code's expansion with its 17th and 18th teams would cost $220 million

The SANFL own the licence for the power and have basically run them dry. They will be far more viable without the SANFL leeching funds from them.

27 million is the SANFL debt not the Port Adelaide debt.
Now the SANFL says it cannot lift its debt profile, currently at $27million, to borrow more money to underwrite the Power.

Thats the quote from your above article.

Eels,
with the 220 million quite a lot of that is probabaly stadium developing and building costs. It will also include salary payments. TPP (total player payments) are currently at about 9 million per club, however they will average above 10 million over the next 5 years. That is 100 million + in player payments for both clubs over the next 5 years. The question is, does this 220 million factor in attendance/sponsership/membership money that the clubs could get back? I would suggest that it does not. Who knows over the next 5 years both the clubs may make 200 million dollars and almost cover all the costs.

well said. One of the reasons the Suns made a small profit in their first year was because they hosted a concert at their stadium and made a killing. All profits went straight to the club. 200m for expansion is smart investment when it includes a fantastic stadium arrangment for both teams.

Back to the topic.

I hate the deal, because it doesn't improve the present TV coverage and does nothing to increase interest in the game where it matters. All the games should be shown on both Nine and Fox like it is with the AFL, and we never got that despite nearly matching the AFL deal dollars wise. NZ still to come of course.

Nine and Fox diddled the NRL. See what happens in 2013.

Try telling that to your head in the sand RL supporting mates here. They think money and trying to match the AFL is all that matters. Coverage for them is... meh. So desperate to match the AFL and still failing.

I notice the first thing the NRL is going todo is payout the $96 million it advanced to various clubs.
Brings down the ready cash down to $800 million.
They also said they'd establish a $40 million fighting fund.
Not an "expansion" or "development" or "consolidation" fund but a fund somehow to counteract the influence of AFL.
Maybe they'll decide they need a "bigger" game and move to cricket sized ovals..
Maybe they'll decide they need a "faster" game and allow the game to flow.
Maybe they'll decide they need a "more spectacular" game and introduce marking .
Maybe they'll decide they need a "more exciting" game and return to kicking goals as the main scoring .
Maybe they'll decide they need to "reduce stoppages" and replace referees with umpires.
Maybe they'll decide they need to "avoid drawn games" and introduce point posts .

But they will keep the crossbar so under the bar is a 9 point goal an they will have something AFL doesn't.

.

Or they'll use it to pay vandals to steal AFL goal posts!

LOL

I saw yesterday that the Broncos, the NRLs richest team, made a poultry 17.8m revenue this year.

http://afr.com/p/lifestyle/sport/nrl_cl ... VhScJHCJDL

Thatd be below almost every AFL team.

Even with similar TV money the NRL is so far behind in revenue it aint funny. Well actually it is!
