If the arse Radiers spend $17m on their football budget, the same as Port, they would have lost a whopping $7.2 million last year.

Xman I would to if I was in AFL's situation. But you have gone to the effort of removing the 2012 figures? Why?? Because after 3 weeks of AFL games there is 1 maybe 2 teams with more members than last year.

Oh and before you use the "our season hasn't started yet" BS, I've been searching high and low for where the AFL is marketing the SAD cup as trial games

Collingwood's is the highest in the AFL while Port's is one of the lowest. It's unrealistic to think Port would attempt to spend as much as they do. FYI, Collingwood don't spend over $50 million on their football budget you moron.
Meanwhile Canberra's football budget is one of the nRL's lowest, so comparing one of the nRL's lowest to one of the AFL's lowest budgets has merit.

So you think that comparing 2 different sports, 2 different population areas and 2 codes that have vastly different membership history and funding is fair and reasonable??

Like I said you are better off comparing Collingwood to port.

Big footy

The totals for 2013 are months off. Many people wait until after the first few games to see how their team is travelling. Many take up membership when they arrive at the ground for their teams first game.

As can be seen by this years NRL crowds, memberships don't mean higher crowds. They've had a shocking start to the year despite claims of record memberships.

Comparing the lowest budget of teams from both codes gives you a good insight into which is the richer sport.

No it doesn't show which code is richer. It show which code is wasteful. Talking about waste is +$200 mil into the sun and gws!! We all know the tv execs sat down and worked out that the nrl is worth more per minute and paid accordingly!
