When the ONE HD numbers and Foxtel replay numbers are added, the respective grand finals rated as follows according to OzTAM and RegionalTAM:

AFL Grand Final - Capital Cities (2,642,000) + Regional Markets (930,000)

Total - 3,572,000


NRL Grand Final - Capital Cities (2,172,000) + Regional Markets (1,141,000)

Total - 3,313,000

Yet all your games were in prime time and the AFL GF in the afternoon on Saturday. The only games that beat the AFL are RL rep games, not NRL anyway. AFL>>>>>>>>NRL

Why is it surprising a game that represents every single RL fan, and is shown live in prime time, rates well? Neither GF does that. But you can't build a competition or year around SOO. It's a bonus, not the main event.

This is the first year the AFL will be live across the country for 4 games per weekend. I cannot imagine this was the case in regional NSW and QLD before this year. Furthermore, teams like the sharks and raiders are suffering because of a lack of FTA prime time exposure because the Broncos are favoured so heavily.

Nsw & Qld NRL regional viewers each get 1 live game. If the NRL does get better regional coverage, And I highly doubt they do, It needs to be remembered that the NRL has many regional sides, the AFL dont.

In my region, and I suspect all, Ch.10/7 Newcastle affiliates broadcast the AFL at the same time.

The AFL had 7 home and away games with over 80k attendance last year. SOO are rep ball events but are still beaten by the AFL and it's world class attendance figures.
