I think if AFL required one or two long high kicks a game it may not be such an issue - but the nature of the game is quite different to RL or RU - where it mainly consists of flat throws. If AFL was mainly all handballs for instance it is probably not such an issue.
while there is alot of kicking AFL i totally agree on that (consisting of around 220 plus per team on average.
so yes a windy day would effect more an AFL match than NRL (good point)
NRL have around 50 to 60 kicks per game (long to high kicks)
Plus conversations after each try and FG
so depending on the scoring it will vary.
The long bombs are meant to be as difficult as possible for the opposition to take - so the wind would be an advantage for the main - so take these out of the equation. and remember, the main way of scoring in AFL is through kicking the ball - usually from a long distance - and passing is pivotal too. Played many a game in wet and windy conditions - and the go ewas to handball - kick long and rove packs - but when it is going backwards - and seen that too - and you are at the elite level - and this is a common thing down there - then a roof is a must. I think that is the issue - conditions like this on far too many occasions. I wonder for NT stadium they'll request air conditioning lol.
Anyway - on the stadium - will the AFL scrap the team? Will it be a line in the sand? I think the AFL are not wanting this but are prepared to go there - releases them of any complicity of them not allowing a team in Tassie as they can put the blame back squarely on the government and not being able to get their house in order.
I suspect that the greens and cross benchers opposed will back a government however when it comes to voting on the stadium with the roof they can vote against it - however as Labor and Liberals are fo the stadium they'll have the votes. Isn't there also fines in place in the agreement if not done by a certain stage?
Valid Points Fred
regards to AFL and team if no stadium >> i have no idea, so much speculation.
