Is AFL even a real football code or a real sport?

I think the key element here in defining something as football is how often the foot plays a part in controlling the ball.

I have no issue with Rugby Union or League being called football as I assume there is an historical element to how it got its name - I am guessing something to do with Soccer (football) and Union deriving from that game - and later League from Union. But to call out a game that has far more use of the foot kicking the ball then either Rugby code, as not being "football" - well - to use your own words - "Fark - - do you ...realise how stupid that sounds".

And to then criticise a sport because you are allowed to hold the ball with your hands and state it is not football because of this - then claim the Rugby codes are football - when that is the main part of the game...... seriously.

I think any soccer enthusiast would demand they are the true football. They hate soccer as a term. So they hate any other football calling themselves football. But when it comes to using your foot with the ball... soccer and Australian rules share a common ground. I have no problem with soccer seeing themselves as the true football nowadays.

Despite the strong amateur comps and teams all the way through NSW and Qld all the way to the top end!
The current listed players from those regions currently on AFL lists that could form teams several times over!

We, by far the majority of Australian Rules fans, don’t care our code is not international, don’t even think about it, just the name, Australian Rules should give you some idea...you Chuckball people keep bringing up 2 things consistently, SOO and international games, because that is all you’ve got, Chuckball domestic comps are crap, NRL is the best of a bad lot and still you lose a lot of your best players to other comps. When your major broadcaster says teams need to go....join the dots...

AFL fans don't care because they accept AFL can't grow outside Australia. They know it is not an internationally marketable sport like Soccer, League, Union etc..

No other nation will ever take seriously a game with 6 goals and played on a cricket field.
