There is talk of the NFL expanding to Canada. But at the end of the day Grid Iron already exists in Canada at a well paid professional level.
While with AFL no form of the game exists outside Australia at any professional level.

so the most influential country in the world can only get its favourite football code to expand into an immediate small neighbour.
Now, have you managed to find another sport originating in a small country that has expanded into professional leagues overseas yet?

Ice Hockey started in Canada and has professional leagues in Europe.
Which ever way you look at it a good sport is a good sport.
I think the main thing that lets AFL down with growth is it not being a common sense game. The rules are very unusual.
If soccer was invented in Australia, I still think it would have been the worlds most popular sport.

According to Wiki ice hockey's origins were in the UK and the game was then introduced to north america
No way soccer would be near as popular if it was invented in Australia

Ice hockey wasn't invented in Canada - and if soccer was invented in Australia no one not even in Australia would know about it!

thats the bit thats to complicated for the oxygen bottles little brains to comprehend.
leagues only remotly popular on the world stage is thanks to union, something that has been around for centuries & originated out of Europe. when you consider all of the European settlers from the early days moving to other countries
