I make some perfectly sound comments in this forum about Australian Football, and Raiderdave, a true leaguie, goes off his tits!

Off course he is entirely wrong. He hasn't been inside Sydney's most venerable and loved sports stadium lately. The SCG is an Aussie Rules sacred site. This wouldn't be so if Raiderdave's snide and abuse-littered barbs were correct

You can't conclude that half of Australia -presumably all the Northerners- don't care for Aussie Rules.

Maybe half of that half don't, but the other half of that half do like Aussie Rules. And to meet the needs of the Northerners who do like Aussie Rules, you'll find oval football grounds with four posts at each end in cities and towns from Wollongong to Port Douglas. Hundreds of them.

Having a quiet coffee in Redfern this morning. Started yarning to a young couple visiting Sydney from Townsville. Turned out they were high school teachers on Easter holidays. When the conversation turned to footy, they told me that participation in rugby league and AFL was split about 50/50 in their school. The acceleration in take up of AFL is only a recent phenomenon though.

Geez, I'd like to know if AFL is shown on TV in Townsville. Where's Wookie when you need him?

Been there plenty, it's almost impossible to see an AFL oval anywhere **** the swath of rl fields.
