ANZAC Day was first commemorated at the Memorial in 1942. There were government orders prohibiting large public gatherings in case of a Japanese air attack, so it was a small occasion, with neither a march nor a memorial service. Since then, ANZAC Day has been commemorated at the Memorial every year.

Seems as though even an official Australian government site doesn't feel it necessary to mention New Zealand in their description of the history of Australian ANZAC day commemorations.
This site is run by the Australian War Memorial and is based in NSW
& yet the VFL couldn't get their plane tickets to NZ for ANZAC day .... quick enough
VFL... trying to right a wrong

When was the last time the Warriors hosted a game on ANZAC Day by the way? Or have the nRL just used them to prop up the ailing Storm for all these years on ANZAC Day?
the only mob who dug a hole for themselves is the VFL
they realised pretty much what I & others have been saying in here .... that the VFL's ANZAC day is a farce
oh they said.. we'll try & fix this to a degree by going to NZ
& with our fans being so darn dopey ... the sham at the MCG will be forgiven
And the Warriors are quite happy to come over to Aust to play the Storm each year
it at least gives NZ'ers in Aust a chance to watch a proper ANZAC game in Melb
as none exists in this disrespectful city except this one

Number of AFL matches in NZ on ANZAC Day in 2013 = 1. No of nRL matches on ANZAC Day in NZ = 0.
Number of AFL matches in Aus on ANZAC Day in 2013 - 1. No of nRL matches on ANZAC Day in Aus = 2.
Well done to the AFL for recognising both countries =D>
The nRL could have done this as well by playing the Warriors at home, but instead decides to use them to prop up a club that is in terrible health and doesn't look like ever improving their fan base.

Yeah real rush that one. The first ANZAC day game between Collingwood and Essendon was almost 20years ago!

Yet the authentic Australian ANZAC site I showed barely mentions NZ and even suggests ANZAC day is used to remember Australian war heroes solely

So now youre assuming that the AFL have realised their Melbourne ANZAC day isnt authentic....

...after 20 years....and are rushing in to NZ...after 20 years...
Any more "Davisms"?
Theyll keep Australia's premier ANZAC day clash thanks, despite what morons like you say. There is nothing wrong with Australians remembering Australia's war heroes through playing Australia's favourite game and between two of Australias most popular teams.
Jealous much?
