You dont compare the first few rounds of the season to the last season in their entirity!!! The first few rounds are always the most supported and the attendances drop off mid season!

the NRL was down by a minscule 0.8% in 2011 despite one of the wettest winters in memory , the NRL WILL break all attendance records in 2012 .. an average over 17,000 for H&A games .. & over 18,000 after finals

meanwhile
the VFL was down 10% in 2011 on 2010

watch it go down by another 10% in 2012

Compare like for like. The NRL always start well ( for them ) but die in the arse around SOO time! Comparatively this is their worst first quarter of the season in 6 years, and possibly ever.
