With a record crowd of just over 2000 fans the AMNRL Grand Final had everything the Axemen had promoted to the Jacksonville public.
The opening 20 minutes saw some of the biggest hits of the year, and retiring hardman, Shayne Mains was leading the way for the Bulls with ferocious hits. By halftime it was very obvious that both teams had come to play and neither was going to give up any unearned yards.
The second half started just as hard and it wasn't long before tempers let lose with a huge brawl right in front of the stands. While it ended up with a player from each team spending 10 minutes in the Sin Bin, the crowd was now yelling for more of the same. With the score never more that 6 points apart, both teams played at 100% for the full eighty minutes.
Late in the second half the Bulls leveled the score at 18 all and seemed to have the momentum swing their way. The hard stuff had not finished however and some more "fisty cups" seen another Bulls player get 10 minutes in the Sin Bin.
The clocked ticked away as both teams continued to hammer each other and it was with 2 minutes left on the clock that the Wildcats broke through for what was the game winning try to end the at Wildcats 22 to the Aston Bulls 18.
The entire day was a huge success with the crowd being treated to tons of give aways from the Axemen and a record number of prizes being won during the halftime show. The Axemen felt assured that they have won over 2000 fans for the 2008 season and this game could not have been any better demonstration of what Rugby League has to offer the American Sport Fan.
