The Sunday Telegraph has also learned State of Origin is now one of the most marketable event in the country, returning an estimated:

- $40 million in ticket sales

- $40 million as a percentage of the NRL’s $1 billion TV broadcast rights

- $20 million in major sponsorship in just three matches

- $3 million in merchandise sales

- $3 million in corporate hospitality.

Estimated figures supplied to The Sunday Telegraph indicate that 20 per cent of the NRL’s $1 billion TV broadcast deal is credited to the appeal of Origin.

This is a good example of pure figures that can't be challenged, as distinct from opinion off to the side in a manner of speaking.

Although someone at the Sunday Telegraph didn't do their job proof reading.

"one of the most marketable event in the country"

News Limited can really annoy me at times.

And the clubs will revolt big time if he tries. It can't work. I've already had this discussion with Swans on the AFL board.

No we can't. Adelaide Oval is off limits because of the cricket, and October in Perth is too warm. I agree that it has to be three - that's what killed it previously. WA felt snubbed and no one was listening.

No one will want to play in October or November. The clubs won't allow it.
