His comment are still totally valid though. The AFL dominate every indicator except TV, which is around about even and varies mainly due to scheduling. The AFL had the highest payTV ratings last year with the finals, and the highest H and A FTA with the ANZAC day game. They also won the GF.

round about even :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/

When the finals were included - thats right - they cannot compete in an even match race.

League were 1st, 2nd and 3rd. - 7 of the highest rating shows in the country - Wow -

R U for real???? Only one other person on this site shows such complete disregard for facts - not even AFLCRAPPER would say that because the NRL won one time spot it therefore proves their number one - only one person would do this and keep claiming something after repeatedly shown to be clearly wrong - come to think of it the use similes, the expressions and the total disregard for facts..........mmmmm he hasn't been around since the new rules come out......could it be????

There is no way to compare the AFL and NRL directly on ratings, other than the GF, because they have different arrangements. Yet we all know who wins the GF comparison year after year. :thumbleft:

Funny how youve turned this into a TV ratings fight though. Why don't you want to talk participation numbers, crowds, members, revenue? :?>

As I said crowds and membership might make you all warm and fuzzy - go weak at the Knees, but in the real world these mean little.

Profit is the bottom line. And the best way to achieve this it rites - both TV & internet....

Profit = revenue - expenses. And ours is 3 times the size of yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

crowds an memberships are one of your CEOs main aims over the next 4 years. Why would he do this if they were insignificant? Let me school you, they bring revenue, they bring atmosphere, sponsors, catering, merchandise, they look great on TV. Memberships keep clubs viable and cashed up. They aren't insignificant, theyre as crucial as TV ratings. The AFL has attendance revenue, sponsorship revenue, membership revenue and TV revenue. The NRL only have TV revenue.

As for profit, these are non profit organisations. They aren't trying to save money to pay owners or shareholders. They're trying to earn money to grow their game, enrich their game, and secure their future. And the AFL have far far more to spend on these endeavours.

The more money you have the better you can grow, enrich, better future etc etc etc And which code is better positioned to do this?????????? the code with very good crowds (even though the have fallen some 20% in the past half- a - dozen years) or the code that had 7 of the top programs on TV last year and turned a $50m profit ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

they haven't fallen 20% in total, which is the relevant figure. There are 9 games played a week now with double the number in expansion states, hence the average drop but similar total over all. Last year 6.9 m attended games across Australia, compared to 7.1m in 2010. How does that translate to a 20% drop? :?>

Again youre confusion regarding revenue and profit. The. AFL have had decent profits for over a decade despite spending their revenue it on expansion, assuring their future, grass roots, and stadium improvements. If you took these expenses away they could claim a huge profit year after year. But for what? As I said, they don't need to make a big profit because they don't have shareholders, they need to use the money they earn to better the game. The NRL haven't even started down this path. Once they find expansion teams, grass roots growth, stadium improvements etc theyll have a modest profit at best.

Funny how you continue to ignore the fact the NRL CEO conceded the AFL is the number one Australian code only a few months ago..... :)))

blah blah blag - should've would've could've

If there trying to better the game ther doing a shit house job. The fans seem to be talking with there feet - the crowds get less & less every year  :thumbleft:

You've proven yourself a massive troll. How the hell does a competition averaging 37k maintain that average when they introduce 2 new teams who play in stadiums with a 25k maximum??

The AFLs average was always going to drop if they expanded. The same will happen to the NRL if they ever expand outside NSW and QLD.

The fact is their total attendance has remained within a few % of their maximum despite less local derbies every year. And no, the crowds increased last year, so youre wrong, again.

But you just resort to "but but but" retorts instead of actually addressing specifics.

Tell me, Smith wants the NRL crowds to reach 20k by 2017. How will he achieve that when theyre at record lows so far this year? Why would he bother if crowds are so irrelevant?

He specified a number of areas the NRL would need to improve in by 2017 to become number 1. What does that mean for the present?
