Dear Mary mother and Joseph! God himself, the big fat man upstairs himself wouldn't believe it possible to cram as many fallacies in one paragraph!

Were you aware that there are rugby league matches on the weekend also? Yes nrl matches in face, those games which in round 1 this year and in many past years have pissed all over the AFL in the TV ratings. There's ur answer for your fist shocking statement.

As for the other woeful comments I'd ask you to take a look at the ratings. I think it was somewhere near a million + down melb Victoria way tuning in last year. A miiiillllllion! And you're suggesting that million are a bunch of brain dead brainwashed merinos who will follow and watch something blindly like urself and ur AFL co on this website?

Shame on you swines, I thought you were better than this [-X

But, but but, but if you look at it in terms of these criteria...

Yeah common guys stop shitting your daks and trying to cover it up with twisted realities of what a rivalry is. It's just an embarrassing look guys.

Man up and admit the truth and facts. SOO pisses on any AFL rivalry year after year after year.

:thumbleft:
No it doesn't - SOO is not a club rivalry but state v state - AFL doesn't have rep footy in reality so what is it competing against - Wednesday night no AFL games on in fact there is no direct comparison - so what does it mean? Not much really now club for club nothing in the NRL comes even close! Ess v Pies (ANZAC) 90k+, Tigers v Blues 80k+, Blues v Pies 90+, shit Crows v Port, WCE v Freo, Hawks v Geelong, Hawks v Ess etc etc they are all games that rate thru the roof and will have massive crowds! 3 times a year for something with NO competition in a totally different format and representative nature really isn't comparable - would be better to compare it to Bledisloe cup or Socceroos!!!!!
 would you look at this pussy shittin his dacks and trying to cover it up

SOO bigger than any AFL rivalry, hands down. It's as clear as day folks, but swines just struggles to see it

The numbers donw lie. SOO just pisses on any AFL rivalry. Just pisses on it. The whole nation sits down, grabs a beer and watches in sheer amazement, year after year after year.
Then WHY do they still have it mid week WHY not on the weekend in direct opposition to the AFL? Because NO ONE in the southern states would tune in - assuming that everyone is interested is not the same as proving - SOO would be front page in NSW/QLD papers - in Vic, SA, WA and Tas it is really mentioned - unless in the form of advertising. You can't have something being the greatest rivalry in Australian sport when half the country isn't involved - ask any victorian, Sth Aussie etc etc which state they go for and they will stare back blankly! Now ask ANYONE in Australia who they are going for in the Ashes and the hatred will be there straight away - Aussie Aussie Aussie - because when it comes to cricket we all hate the poms! But you presuming that a NSW/QLD thing grabs the attention of people outside of those states is typically presumptuous of someone from NSW!
:blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah:

Are you saying that the rivalry for nsw v QLD is greater for a Victorian than Australia v England in the Ashes? This whole thread is about SOO being the biggest rivalry in Australia - cricket is most likely the one sport that transcends boarders in Australia, even women's netball against NZ is bigger - just because someone turns on a TV doesn't mean they involved in it - why can't you understand that??? I bet the Melbourne cup EACH year gets higher tv ratings than SOO or NY eve telecast - tv ratings alone don't prove something is followed, if that was the case the NFL could say they have a substantial world wide following based on their Super Bowl ratings - but I
It just isn't the case - most Victorians, Sth Aussies, Western Australians and Tasmanians would not many of the rules or even players names, they tune in because it has been advertised as a spectacle or a significant event - they don't however tune in because they want to see NSW or QLD win - or have some emotional investment. Yet for five days of five tests they tune in for those very reasons! That is what makes the Ashes number one and you wrong!

What was the top rating sporting event of 2013, Swans4ever? Was it a day of an Ashes Test? No it was not. It was State of Origin.

SOO rates higher than the Ashes. What I don't understand is how you gauge the Ashes as being more popular? Was it because you thought that it rated higher than the SOO? That would then contradict your argument when you say "tv ratings alone don't prove something is followed". I must admit I am not as passionate about the Ashes as I was. I do turn on the TV and watch a bit of it but most of the time it's there in the background while I do am doing something else and I will only pay attention during a replay of a wicket being taken or a 4 or 6 being scored. I would bet most viewers would be the same. SOO is different, I even put off going to get a beer till half time.

Oh dear, you're quite desperate now, referring to a cricket rivalry when its quite clear we're talking about AFL v nrl  I'm afraid you've missed the context again my dear swines, once again, you and the thread are quite literally...off kilter.

Grow a brain and contribute to the thread buddy ol pal. Cricket talk belongs elsewhere

Last I looked they include every day of an Ashes series - because game is played over five days - a RL game is played in 80 min - but this thread was about the greatest rivalry in Australia - again would a Victorian, Sth Australian, Western Australian have that view???? Of course not but cricket has no state boundaries - TV ratings was not the question it was rivalry.

Look I'm not saying there is rivalry what I am saying is NATIONALLY the ashes would be greater and mean more because it is followed in EVERY state - a Victorian may watch SOO but is it because it is an event and it doesn't hold any passion for him/her? Does it hold the same do or die or desperation to win as it does for a Queenslander? No of course it doesn't because NSW or QLD is not their state, there is no ownership just like for me last GF - I watched the game had a beer with friends but I didn't really cared who won because IT WASNT MY SIDE - but in 2012 I did care, the result did matter just like Australia beating the poms this summer. I watch SOO but I just don't care who wins - therefore for me being a Victorian it is not a rivalry that matters. Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp????

To which TV ratings play in role in the judgment. And if you are going to use a time factor, may I suggest you compare all three State of Origin games with a five day Test match and see what results?

The fact remains that the greatest rivalry in Australian sport is New South Wales v Queensland in rugby league. Not Australia v England in cricket.
