RL,RU & Soccer all have sold out Suncorp ,which has a capacity 10K above the Gabba.

Just my opinion working in Brisbane and living on Gold Coast ... AFL much more in the media and growing in Brisbane ... Soccer does too but different seasons so hard to compare. I would say both have a niche market but both significant niche markets. It may not be what you want to hear but just the way I see it. On the Gold Coast soccer in non existent , union has a presence but I don't see it in the media at all actually here. AFL has a strong presence in the suns and it's growing as well as a very strong grass roots. There isn't that competition btw the nrl or AFL here although AFL is getting bigger each year.

At my sons AFL club there are a mix of ex pats, locals who have always followed, and converts from rl. There are some nz blokes whose sons have come over ... One went back then came back to AFL. The general word is that the nrl on hold coast at least, is very poorly run, whereas AFL is professionally run. Also one father put it this way... If you like your women with teeth then stay away from rl... He just shook his head and laughed as he explained how rough and bogan rl is on Gold Coast . There's a lot of racism as well which reared its head last year when an aboriginal boy was called all sorts of names by parents of an opposing team. When a parent reported it to club they did nothing... Until it hit the media.

The coach of two under 15 footballers who were allegedly racially abused in a game on June 2 has been suspended for three weeks and his club fined $1000.

The Northern Football League tribunal handed down the penalties on Tuesday night to Reservoir Colts and its under 15s coach Peter Milne, punishing Milne for "conduct unbecoming" for his comments when contacted last week by Fairfax Media about the alleged vilification of his young players. The $1000 fine against Reservoir is suspended.

The NFL tribunal last week suspended Mohammed Awo for six matches for threatening behaviour after he vowed to put Hurstbridge opponents "in hospital" at the end of their game. Mohammed claimed he was responding to racial abuse, including being called a "black c---" and "black monkey" by opponents and a by Hurstbridge official.

He also claimed a teammate of Sudanese origin was told by a Hurstbridge player, "This isn’t the game for you, it’s not for black people."

Nope, no AFL propaganda just my interactions with people at the club. I made several points but as usual you latch onto one thing whilst ignoring the rest. I think racism in sport reflects that in society, which fortunately is becoming less tolerable and more people willing to stand up to it when they see it. Look at dale Thomas for collingwood for instance and whoever reported the persons who got suspended on the article you mention ... And also to the lady who reported the racism at the junior rl on the Gold Coast. Although they did nothing about it she kept it going and took it to the media... Still unsure of the outcome. But generally, the reports of rl on the Gold Coast is that it is not very well run, unprofessional, and your more feral types. Just what i am told. A lot of parents bring their kids to play who have lived on Gold Coast all their lives, some not to happy about it lol and not fans if AFL but they get involved and are starting to understand the game. One guy, a Fortune 500 business he tells me .. New business, says he never understood AFL but since he has had to watch his son play he has come to understand the rules and reasonings of the game and appreciate the skill involved. So AFL doing well on Gold Coast, growing and getting lots of kids. Southport sharks under 9s are inundated with kids and require more coaches .. I think seven teams? So AFL clearly second on the Gold Coast for sure ... It's a big region . If the suns make the 8 watch out lol.



Also, chill out guys it's only a game of sport ... You nrl guys are more obsessed with AFL than the AFL people. I wonder how much time goes into googling stuff lol but each to their own. D

the GABBA has sold out many times
the place only holds 37/38k after all of its redevelopments since the mid 90s, after the stands have been finished and dog track remover, the best crowd the cricket has ever gotten 39k
this year the lions averaged 22k at the games, considering the lions have been shit for the last 10 years, its still ok

any NRL club aside from the broncos would love a crowd attendance average of that

the Aleague is in the Summer gets an ok run in the papers but still play's second fiddle to the cricket, now also thanks to the BBL it suffers a bit in publicity.

the AFL now gets a better run in the papers, thanks to news ltd selling off its share of the NRL. the NRL received a good run in all of news ltd papers naturally promoting & protecting its own product. Newsltd has the majority share of the media in QLD.
now the news ltd will write and print what ever sells, instead of trying to support and promote its own product
