Ratings are much the same overall. AFL have better ratings in the metro while NRL have much better regional support.

You think ? Big footy has AFL kicking arse in tv ratings. Regionals are too hard to measure and do many variables. Gold Coast we get both Brisbane and Gold Coast tv. Tassie aren't added ... Regional Vic? Etc etc? But you add in the large towns of regional NSW ??? But from what I have read AFL are mikes ahead.

Lol Raiderdave deflected away from the point that some nRL clubs have already stagnated when it comes to memberships despite being so low still!

My bad Phelpsy, AFL does have better TV ratings but not by much. When the NRL combine NZ Ratings as well I think it is very close. RL also has origin, test matches and the allstars game to boost TV numbers, so it is better when all of them are combined. I reckon, that if the NRL expand to possibly Perth and Central QLD they will attract the same amount of viewers as the AFL does. Then possibly an expansion into Adelaide a bit further down the track.

In membership news, South Sydney first club to crack 25,000 for the NRL, Brisbane are closely behind them and are expected to crack 25,000 by the weekend or early next week.

It's hard to work out viewers. There are at least 2 different systems used to tally which give you two completely different amounts. Then and you never know what they have added in terms of NAB cup, SOO, Rep footy etc. Then the new technology with phone, Internet and tablet users can't really be added although in my opinion they should be. To top it off how should you work out how to count viewers, should it be viewers per game or viewers per hour or total unique viewers. There are ways to make the system work better for NRL and ways to make it better for AFL, in the end you get both sides claiming victory.

Pure Raiderdave BS show us ur link liar! AFL has only 6 more games in a year, (6238876 2012 subtracted from 6525071 is 286k less fans than in 2011-2012 not 360k less fans). The NRL had 3153142 fans last year over 3 million less fans!
AFL had also had higher TV ratings for 2012. AFL in 2012 had 400k more memberships.
