2 teams in each mainland state, games in every state or territory and every capital city for premiership points, I'd say the AFL is the most national league of them all by a long margin.

yeah but two of those states is no more than of a shoe string significance. In nsw AFL is easily sitting 4th out of the 4 biggest codes (RL,Union,Soccer,AFL) and i would say in QLD their 3rd

In Gold Coast clearly second . Maybe Brisbane equal second ... Rest of much if state would say second .

The AFL is missing teams in places like regional Qld (say far north Qld), Canberra, Tasmania, NT and Regional NSW (say central coast or Newcastle) However they play 3 games in canberra and 6 games in Tasmania which some what makes up for that. You could probabaly say that probabaly 5 million Aussies dont have an AFL team in their area. Prehaps you could say 4 million if you remove canberra, tassie and southern NSW because they have a team who plays there a bit.
RL doesnt really have a team in SA, WA, tassie, NT or even regional vic to some extent. So thats probabaly 5.5 million to 4.5 million if you say the Storm represent regional Vic. So in the end you could say that both the NRL and the AFL have similar amounts of representation in terms of population.
Some would claim that the AFL have the 2 Qld teams and 2 NSW teams to represent Qld and NSW but im sure that there are many Qld and NSW people who would disagree with this statement.
