FRIDAY night football will be off limits in the push to equalise the competition's riches.

AFL boss Andrew Demetriou said the showpiece Friday night match would not be shared around to help cash-strapped clubs.

"We have given a commitment under our broadcast agreement and our anti-siphoning agreement with the government that the best game will be on Friday night," Demetriou told the Herald Sun.

"And the clubs all accept that they have to earn the right to get a Friday night game."

Yep this is funny hey.

Now you know that Kerry stokes payed overs for AFL.

First he pulls the main channel in perth for all AFL games bar WCE, FREO after the first year of Broadcast deal.

Then they will only put on Big rating teams on Friday from here on in..............

The poor ratings for the AFL must be draining Kerry's coffers faster then GWS, SUNS are draining the AFL's...............

Perth AFL fans will again cop a raw deal on Friday night - because Channel 7 says 5.30pm is "too early" to be showing an AFL final live.
Channel 7 will show the blockbuster qualifying final between Geelong and Hawthorn live in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney.
But not in Perth, where fans will be consigned to watching the game on one-hour delay.
"We'd rarely ever move the (6pm) news," a Channel 7 spokesman said.

"And 5.30pm is really too early for us to be showing the football. People won't even be home by that time."

This is what ch7 said in 2011. They caved in to pressure this year, but I'd suggest theyre regretting it, as are the AFL fans in Perth who get home from work at half time #-o

Club chiefs and league bosses will hold a special summit today to discuss ways to bridge the gap between the game's richest and poorest clubs.

Proposals include a "fan tax" on blockbuster matches, a "luxury tax" on football department expenditure and a "pokies tax" on excessive gaming profits.

But Collingwood president Eddie McGuire described the push for equalisation as "a total misnomer", despite data showing no team in the bottom four of footy spending has won a premiership since North Melbourne in 1999.

"To use football parlance, they are complaining about hamstring pain when they've got lower back problems - they're going to the wrong place," McGuire said.

"They're saying the teams that have got the most money are playing in the finals. That is (the case) at the moment because 10 years ago they weren't, and that's how the cycle goes.

"In fact, if you have a look at it, North Melbourne has been twice as successful as Collingwood over the past 50 years, which conveniently gets thrown in my face, except when they are trying to pick my pocket."

McGuire told Triple M the AFL had sold struggling clubs up the river through the disastrous arrangements with Etihad Stadium, while the Western Bulldogs and Kangaroos had wounded themselves by turning their back on lucrative poker machine ventures.

And he revealed the AFL had accused the Magpies of wasting money a decade ago for pouring resources into coaching and recruiting.

"Ten years ago the AFL used to humiliate me in the presidents' meetings," McGuire said.

"In fact, Wayne Jackson came in one time and said, 'You blokes are all idiots. Why are you spending money on recruiting? You can just go to (AFL recruiting chief Kevin) 'Shifter' Sheehan and he'll just give you a sheet and you can tick their names off as they come through'. Quote, unquote.

"And 10 years down the track the clubs who said, 'All right, we'll get in a conga line behind the AFL', are in all sorts."

Here's the difference:

AD says: "the clubs all accept they have to earn the right to play Friday night football". "We have given a commitment under our broadcast agreement and our anti-siphoning agreement with the government that the best game will be on Friday night," Demetriou told the Herald Sun..

So they all have an opportunity. If theyre competitive, in the finals, playing well, they get Friday night games. Any team, not just the biggest. =D>

Meanwhile in the NRL:

BRISBANE Broncos will have Friday night fever for the next five years, with Channel 9 boss David Gyngell adamant his "huge cheque" for the $1.025 billion TV rights buys him the schedule of choice. "Why wouldn't they be on every Friday night in Brisbane?" Gyngell said. "We just bought the game.

 :D

Thus endeth the lesson
