New international Television deal

Rugby League has secured a new international television deal that will guarantee access to key markets including the UK, USA, Asia and the Pacific.

The five-year agreement with IMG Media will ensure fans overseas have world-wide access to all Telstra Premiership matches as well as State of Origin, Test matches played in Australia, AAMI City-Country and the Harvey Norman All Stars.

The partnership covers free-to-air television, subscription television, IPTV, mobile, in-ship, in-flight and gaming rights, as well as access to the NRL Films archive, and will provide international fans with:

• Guaranteed television coverage in key markets including the UK, USA, Asia, and Pacific;

• Access to all games in HD either through television or online platforms, as well as access to a 30-minute weekly highlights show;

• A free digital NRL Channel for international fans featuring match vision and a mobile NRL app;

• All NRL and State of Origin matches available on a live or near-live basis via television or online, mobile applications, smart TVs or other media platforms;

• International fans in regions where there is no TV or IPTV rights deals in place will be able to access matches for free on a leading web destination, such as YouTube or USTREAM.

“What’s exciting for Rugby League fans around the world is that we now have in place a range of different options for them to watch matches across television and digital mediums,” NRL Interim Chief Executive, Mr Shane Mattiske, said.

“To have guaranteed television exposure in key markets such as the UK, USA and Pacific is really significant for growing the game’s international exposure.

“As IMG Media finalises deals in markets around the world we will be able to confirm the processes in which fans will be able to tune in to watch all the excitement of the Telstra Premiership and the best representative contests in sport, including State of Origin.”

Mr Chris Guinness, Senior Vice-President, Head of Asia Pacific, IMG Media, said IMG Media was committed to increasing Rugby League coverage across international markets.

“We are very excited about extending our relationship with the NRL over the next five years,” he said.

“The relationship has evolved from traditional international TV distribution to a complete 360 degree involvement covering all aspects of the NRL’s international media assets and we look forward to working closely with the NRL in this new exciting era.”

The international rights do not include NRL properties in Australia and New Zealand, nor do they include World Cup matches or Tests overseas.

Most international rights deals will be in place before the start of the 2013 Telstra Premiership season.

IMG Media is a division of IMG Worldwide, a global sports, fashion and media business with nearly 3,000 employees operating in more than 30 countries.

Yeah no comment from our AFL fans as yet Pussycat..........................usually a good sign that they are upset and reserved to the fact that they are becoming less relevant on a international basis by the day.............. :lol: :lol:

naming rights & radio were never talked about as part of the VFL's 1.253 billion
the online rights we scored last week are worth up to 180 Million as they are now ... & its thought the revenue sharing arrangment with telstra for non telstra customers getting their NRL..will be worth at least another 20 Million minimum ova the 5 years , thats 200 million on top of our 1.025 Billion Aust TV deal
take out 50 Million for our naming rights .. approx
& we have 1.175 Billion to date ..... with a minimum of 100 Million ( could be more, as much as 150 Million ) & we're at 1.275 Billion ... to 1.325 Billion

thats more then the VFL got for their deal
end of :cool:
Unfortunately the NRL have bundled naming rights with the online rights worth 100-150 million (double 90 million over 6 years is 150 million over 5 years Dave. I would also think to get the 150 million they may have to sell a lot of mobile phone 50 dollar packages). So to compare the two deals we need to add in the AFL naming rights. Unfortunately the NRL just cant quite get the same amount as the AFL but quite a good effort and in the end with NZ rights they will at best fall just short.

You calculator is also poor 1.025 + .180 (lol the reporter totally stuff that up) = 1.205 - 50 million as you say for naming rights would leave you with 1.155 billion + adding 100-150 million = 1.255-1.305 billion (but I think your max would be 1.05 + .150 + 0.120 = 1.275 billion with naming rights. While the AFL are already over 1.3 million (with naming but not radio).

Evidence? Your pathetic code didn't even release the figure of the Telstra deal! Why? Because they knew it was a pathetic number as it even includes naming rights :lol:
Couldn't even match Telstra's AFL deal of over $150 million who don't even hold the naming rights of the AFL.

Got no issue with the amount of money the NRL has got. The issue is Daves made up figures. I have just been correcting his figures. (see above post).

where does this say its 150 Million ?
Telstra and the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) today signed a five-year rights deal for the broadcasting of live matches on mobiles and tablets for close to AU$180 million.
the 150 mill is a calculation based on an assumption that is wrong according to the above media statement.

we are currently at approx 1.205 Billion
remove naming rights as thats not part of the VFL's 1.253 bill , so... approx 50 million ..... but add at least 20 million because revenue from a sharing arrangement with telstra for non telstra customers to access NRL games on phones & tablets etc .. is not included in this 180 million figure

so its 1.175 Billion
with the Kiwis to come

even if the NZ'ers didn't increase their present deal , we'd match the VFL figure
but of course .... what are the chances of that ?

No, assumptions about the media deal have been made, but no figure released. Plus the NZ deal is year to be decided.
