Films on PNG rugby league
By KEVIN TEME
Two professional film makers of special documentarys are set to add a strong marketing tool for PNG’s semi professional rugby league competition, the Digicel Cup next year.
Tropic winter is a documentary television series sharing the story of PNG rugby league with the world. It will certainly follow some franchises as the team compete with rival teams from around the country in their quest for the Digicel Cup glory.
Documentary producer, Stig Schnell and Director Simon Dikkenberg were in the country filming the annual PNG and Australia Prime Minister’s XIII game last month.
“The passion that the people here have for rugby league is just amazing. You will never ever find such in any part of the world including Australia,” Schnell said.
The two are having talks with various franchises in the country who are interested in the documentary which will be televised on Fox TV.

Australia will provide a funding boost to help develop the game of rugby league in Papua New Guinea.
Australia's Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Richard Marles has announced a three year, AusAID-funded program in Papua New Guinea.

"Over a three year pilot 50,000 children, 500 teachers across 80 schools in 3 provinces in PNG will benefit from participation in rugby league and that's just fantastic."
