Foxtel includes metro and regional markets from areas where the FTA ratings didnt count last year Dave. These are the accurate figures. We were seriously under counted in previous years Dave, just as we always said. :\:

oh so every extra veiwer is form this VFL fanatsy land where veiwers were never counted ?
which metro areas in the sthn states were never counted ?
Well for starters Dave, the AFL has a national audience, but the regional TAm figures only include the top 20, so the AFL rarely made the cut-off for regional viewers so you all excluded these fans. Now they can be counted in the Foxtel national figures so their finally acknowledged.

Face it, we're bigger and better on TV, at the ground, everything...

no one can take these foxtel ratings seriously ... they make the myth of regional ratings for the NRL look tame in comparison

so its a loss for the Victorian game as it always is

but even if they weren't a piece of fiction & were believable
did they count for much $$ wise in our respective TV deals marcus :-k

I would be happy to acknowledge that NRL and AFL are about the same in terms of TV viewership. This year the AFL has some nice match ups in the finals and easy access for all the fans with simulcasting. If the NRL had a similar deal they would probabaly attract a similar amount of viewers. The NRL needs to work on its attendences and sponsership now that the TV deal is done. A lot of the grounds need to be upgraded. I would love to see a retangular ground near ANZ which could hold 60K just for RL for the big games. This would have much better atmosphere then ANZ with a similar amount of people at the ground.

He might be talking about these areas.

The markets that are surveyed by Nielsen Media Research using the diary method are (Commercial stations listed within the market):

Regional WA (GWN, WIN WA)
Darwin (NTD-9, STHN CROSS)
Pt Pirie/Broken Hill (SC GTS/BKN, SC 10)
Riverland/Mt Gambier (WIN SA, WIN TEN)
Remote Central & East (IMPARJA, STHN CROSS)

These markets are listed in a diary and not avaliable until the end of the year when they are tallied.

fact is

the average veiwership for a club game of VFL in the sthn metros is about 8%.. this rises to about 11% for finals 30% for a Grandfinal
it is the same in the regional areas of these states .. counted .. or not counted
the population of the Sthn States is about 10.5 Million

it is the same % for the Nthn NRL states
except we have 12.5 Million people in our states ..... this is why we win where ratings are concerned & why we got the $$ we did for our TV deal

there are ... no new mystery veiwers for the VFL .. no fans who suddenly realised they are vicky kicky fans this year ... well not in the numbers being falsely claimed
to suddenly claim a increase of 30% is as you can see .. stuff of fairy tales & simply not to be considered for a second
K?

Did the NRL increase their viewership by 30% + when they got their deal in 2006? Was the content better? The 30% increase in AFL viewership this year is due to live AFL and one extra game. The only live games in the past were the 5 foxtel games. AFL now has 9 live games with the friday night live getting a big increase. You are right in that there has not been a sudden increase in fans. What there has been is more fans watching games because of the live content.

NSW/Qld has 11.8 million compared to Vic/WA/SA/Tas with 10.1 million but I would say that the AR penertration is a lot higher in NSW/Qld then the penertration of RL in Vic/SA/WA/Tas. Im happy to call it even, without including Rugby union.

a live VFL game in 2011 attracted 1 Million odd veiwers
same live game in 2012 ... attracts 1.35 Million

& thats just about every game
for no other reason then because all the rest of the games are live too .... 8-[

:-k .. thats curious
wot did all these dribblers do last year for their fix of singletball ?.... did they simply not watch it
because they couldn't watch 2 games out of the 8 live .. they chose to universally boycott the games altogether
oh i can't watch it live ... so I simply won't watch it at all

wot a load of old bollocks

the population of Australia is almost 23 Million ... not 21.9

& the penetration levels mean squat
the VFL despite having 4 sides to our 1 in the others heartland does not rate that much more on TV
the ratings from our 4 biggest games in the sthn states are ova 2 Million .... the other 78 covered around 2.5 Million
& this would just about cover the entire VFL season in NSW QLD & the ACT

nah you'll need more then that

our 2 million advantage in population is why we will always win
its just the way it is

Apples for Apples! I only used live games only. The first Friday night semis - all live (for the previous years I looked up.

Your Friday night club game (with PayTV numbers included) was up 40% but had previously been slightly delayed.
Rugby League, the dominant force in Australian sport!

Wow i think this is the first time a AFL fan has admitted that the increase in viewership for the AFL in 2012 is mainly due to increased coverage and more live games.

This also explains why the AFL crowds are in decline.

Well done Pies, you are saying what i been saying for the last 4 months and i am still not able to get through to Xman and the other clowns. =D>
