Horrible horrible ratings for the NRL last night. #-o

706k for the AFL and a woeful 465k for the NRL last night (main channels only). I fact the NRLs live game barely made the top 20!

Thats not exactly right. The were 8th & 19th shows for the metro audience. When the full audience is shown up the AFL will most likely not appear

So finally we can put this to rest

AFL hands down beats NRL in

Crowds
Tv ratings
Quality of the game
Quantity of the game
IQ level of the players
IQ level of the supporters

Time to close the thread.

I read this thread with some amusement because this argument is going no where. It is pretty obvious the TV support for both codes is pretty darn even.So then we have to ask what are the differences which seperate these two codes and as ive posted before it is passion. The revenue streams are much higher in the AFL simply because this reason. How can you ever match it with the AFL when nobody bothers to show up.12000 tonight at aami really isnt a good look. When you see the discrepancy between membership and crowds between the two code you realise what a battle league has.Getting a TV deal with parity is never going to bridge this gap.How is the TV deal going to build new stadiums, increase membership and get people to hit their pockets for their clubs. It wont if anything it will be detrimental. All games live will just give people more reasons to stay home.So no crowds means no investment in infrastructure no government support no real growth to alternative revenue streams. As I type this the AFL have three major expansion projects being undertaken on its ovals at a cost of over 500 million paid mainly by respective state governments. The poorest club in the league (north melbourne)have a training facility that is unrivalled in league circles and it was paid for by the government. Why?Because AFL fans follow their clubs with their pockets their feet and their votes. To the average AFL fan footy is a religion that requires unwavering passion not something to watch on tele on a slow saturday night. The only people doing well out of league are the murdochs and the packers. The greatest trick they ever produced was convincing the average NRL fan that their game is better on tele than going live.Really? ive been to the league and I enjoyed it a lot twice as good live than on tele now you just need to convince the people who say they love the game.

I should! you've said it 50 million times . but you do realise that there more people left of Qld than anywhere?

Do you honestly think 60 or 70 people are going to make much difference ](*,)

How much money does a regional supporter part with when they follow a club 300 km away ?Answer : NOTHING
Theyd be more concerned with their local teams.Regional support in terms of dollars means very little.Cant imagine a guy in Broken Hill caring too much about the demise of the sharks or those in Ipswich caring about the Titans. But as there isnt much on in the bush he might just watch them on a Friday night.

Pookus makes a good point. Regional fans are great if they live in an area where there is a regional team, but other than that they provide little to no financial benefit for the league. Yet the only way the NRL can seemingly compete with the AFL in supporter numbers is by including 5million regional people. They watch tv, sure. But we know advertising in country areas is worth far less than metro figures. Plus the NRLs reliance on tv revenue has got to be a concern. But what else can they do? The NSW and QLD metro population treats the game with contempt. Attendances and memeberships are woeful in the very heartland of the code. #-o
