This convo is becoming fairly pisspoor although amusing. There's skills in both sports which differ. So lets get a bit more specific.
In terms of agility and running skills, RL has it by far. Players like billy slater are testament to this fact as is the smaller ground and tighter defensive line in RL. Side stepping, goose steps, directional changes, explosive speed off the mark are all common place in the entire RL backline and many forwards. Remember also that agility is a skill which involves performing in tight spaces.
In terms of taking overhead marks Marngrook has it, although RL wingers nowadays take magnificent marks that most marngrook players could only dream about. But overall you'd have to take the marngrookers here.
In terms of tackling its RL by a mile.
In terms of fending off defenders RL again by a mile.
In terms of kicking RL halves display more skill and creativity in their kicking than pretty much all marngrookers, who really only use the drop punt and slight variations of the drop punt for 96.53% of their kicks. But all marngrookers develop a good kick. Even so though, with the amazing diversity and creativity displayed by RL halves and increasingly other backs and forwards in this area RL wins on kicking. Drop and punt is a skill but its only ONE kicking skill. Leaguies can and often perform a ridiculous variety of kicks with pinpoint accuracy. Its amazingly skillful so eat those apples afl bitches
In terms of ball handling skills RL offers a variety of passes including flick passes, cut out passes, offloads, no look passes, overhead passes etc etc. Marngrook offers a fair few skills in this dept too including bounce passes, a variety of cut out style passes, fumbling the ball so it goes the way they want it to (tough to admit but it is a bit of a skill at times raider, albeit akin to a toddler following a ball after pushing it) Overall though this ones close, it must go to RL as the skills must be fine tuned in order to pull them off in the very tight spaces in which they continually need to conduct them. Again marngrook on the large expansive ground requires less "skill" in this area.
So there's the analysis folks. RL wins on skill factor, quite comfortably. No wonder more families sit down to watch this sport on the tele week in, week out. On a side note please keep in mind the transition of NRL players to the AFL comp. It's never gone the other way round and although I diss khunt, I'm really dissing the AFL for its ridiculous payment of a known golddigger. khunt and izzy will make it in the end. I dont think we'll ever see it go the other way round and this is due to the increased skills required in RL, as I highlighted above.
Have a nice day chaps.
