Re: International AFL vs International RL
The future looks bright for International AFL. It looks bleak for International RL. History is no longer relevant in this changing world.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

Re: International AFL vs International RL
ah... more bulletins from cuzzy's delusional world seen through rose coloured glasses
lets add some perspective shall we
RL has gained as many ( probably more ) ... also probably only at the same level .. but making inroads everywhere .. as Parra's posts prove.
Yes....
the rest are a bit behind ... but in reality .. look at Rugby Union .. Wales n Ireland have NEVER beaten the All Blacks ..in ova 100 years of trying
its not much different.
with a " world " slap n tickle festival every now n then
& thats what it will remain for many a long day
lets add some perspective shall we
Going nowhere ? for every nation of expats to bumbling clowns that AR has gained in the last 25 years or so of attemting to export its game OSThat's the thing. The rl types like to point out their position that seems to be going nowhere.
RL has gained as many ( probably more ) ... also probably only at the same level .. but making inroads everywhere .. as Parra's posts prove.
eeerrrr .... wotPossibly that's because rl is an English game and therefore an English responsibility.
.The strength of rl internationally is that it has some countries playing above amateur status.
Yes....
we have 2 even nations .. Aust & NZ .. another that can provide plenty of opposition ..in Eng & they proved this in the recent 4 nationsThe weakness of rl internationally is the uneveness of the competing countries.
the rest are a bit behind ... but in reality .. look at Rugby Union .. Wales n Ireland have NEVER beaten the All Blacks ..in ova 100 years of trying
its not much different.
the rest of this is just cuzzy's disconection with reality .. international AR is nothing more then a slap n tickle session at the parkThe IC has a rapidly increasing standard and profile with the next IC almost guarenteed being bigger and better.
ATM the strength of the IC is that there are a large number of countries within a competitive framework.
In the future there will be a lot greater distinction between the divisions but the divisions will be balanced.
Also it is a strength that Australia does not have the pretence of being a competitor but a number of countries will continue to develop strongly.
The RSA, PNG and NZ because of assistance will make continued gains to be at the forefront.
Europe, North America and the Pacific will be strong performers in the next group.
2011 newcomers like China and India should be improvers.
Then there should be a few newcomers to the next IC.
All in all a very balanced competition that in all probability will continue to develope in all aspects
with a " world " slap n tickle festival every now n then
& thats what it will remain for many a long day

actually stop using garbage bins for goals & upgrade to PVC piping .. not .. stolen out of a plumbers truck
& maybe ..
get people to stop their dogs from pinching one off on their fields during games
maybe
in the fullness of time
perhaps
RL will continue to play at a very respectable level across many nations

Re: International AFL vs International RL
It does look bright, especially those countries that have been the recipients of assistance - the RSA, PNG and NZ.Topper wrote:The future looks bright for International AFL.
IMO, the success of this assistance has appeared to have encouraged the AFL to widen it's scope.
Namely China. Of course that had a lot to do with the TV deal but it appears to be more ongoing than that.
Also I'm reasonabkly confident we'll hear of some developments out of India.
I cannot really comment on that because you hear so little about international rl.Topper wrote:It looks bleak for International RL.
And never really was.Topper wrote:History is no longer relevant in this changing world.
Nice try Cos.

That's the problem. Where's the expansion? RL should be flogging itself to as many countries as possible. But not a bleep!cos789 wrote:I cannot really comment on that because you hear so little about international rl.

Re: International AFL vs International RL
Since it's not an Australian game what's to worry about.Topper wrote:That's the problem. Where's the expansion? RL should be flogging itself to as many countries as possible. But not a bleep!cos789 wrote:I cannot really comment on that because you hear so little about international rl.
It's an imperial English game living in the shadow of it's mother RU.
Irish Football has a lot more global potential than rl and you don't hear about that at all.
The beauty about Australian Football is just that, it's Australian, it's a tourist attraction domestically and is increasingly linked to Australian trade envoys overseas.
Nice try Cos.

I follow Australalian Football with a passion not because it's Australian but because it's a great game..
I don't follow rl anymore, not because it's an English imperial game but because I prefer the game of Australian Football.

I don't like RL, not because it's foreign, but because it's boring and a bogan magnet played by no neck thugs!
I love ARs and I'm very proud it is Australian made! =D>
King-Eliagh: ...I believe [RL] is popular in all the other states and territories, bar tasmania.
