More "troubles" in the west of Sydney for the NRL

Wests Tigers' choice of headquarters at Concord, and the NRL's insistence clubs be known by emblems, reinforces this. But the rise of a common enemy - the AFL's Greater Western Sydney franchise - has alarmed directors of both Balmain and Wests, particularly due to the Giants' decision to play in Tigers colours.
The GWS might not be a tsunami but they sure are spooking some NRL people.
all they've done is wake the sleeping giant ........GWS for the scrap heap within a decade

LMAO at Dave! Sleeping giant? The Swans have been pulling higher average crowds than any of the Sydney NRL teams for years, while the Broncos have been far more competitive for just as long! And what have the NRL done about that?

One big freaking goose egg! In fact at one point they nearly fell apart and only now are they getting themselves back together with an independent commission, which they stole from the AFL!

Show us some decent reactions. Getting spooked is one thing, but the reaction is something else!

They're spooked into submission, NSWAFL!
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

so almost every single swans supporter makes time to watch their team every week do they? None are working, at life events like weddings, parties etc? Do you watch every single raiders game?

If 25k are at the game, 60k watching on FTA and 20k watch PayTV there are sure to be many many more who could not attend or watch.

http://www.roymorgan.com/news/press-releases/2009/906/

This link suggests there are over 1million Swans fans. Obviously not all of them are living in Sydney, but the vast majority would be.

Notice the poll also shows that the AFL has greater support than NRL.

NOT in sydney ... their TV ratings would be considerably bigger otherwise ( this is where ratings are a great indicator )
like Ive said ... if you can't even flip a button on a remote to watch a TV show that doesn't require much of a comitment from you
.. you are quite " uninterested" in the contents of said show.

and as for that ridiculous poll.......
the figures for the league teams from the same report ... have the Broncos as the most popular football team.. of any code.. in the Country
& it also said the Storm have .... 826K fans ... making them .. the 2nd most popular NRL team ... & the 3rd most popular team of any code in the country
http://www.roymorgan.com/news/press-releases/2009/948/

do you believe that ?

no

I believe it. Both make sense. Melbourne is a sporting made town and Sydney is not. The figures bear that out.

Although I do question the Storm having a bigger supporter base than Collingwood.

I question that as well given that it's not reflecting in the crowd figures. Collingwood averaged 57,725 in 2011 (the highest in the AFL). The Storm averaged 14.339.

The thing you don't take into account is that tv audiences are not a true indication of support numbers.

For example crowd and membership figures Show collingwood have Atleast double the support of say the melbourne demons. But as far as tv audience goes the demons would get a similar or maybe slightly smaller audience than Collingwood, often depending on the likely quality of the game and the effect it has on the final 8.

Why is this so? Well clearly the TV ratings for every game have a significant proportion of neutral fans watching.

Therefore to simply say that the 100k that watch the swans should be compared to the ratings for all the ratings for NRL games is wrong. You are then counting all the RL fans multiple times and the swans fans only once.

Fn prime time games for RL compared to the swans are probably a better comparison and show the swans are probably supported about 1/5th to 1/6th of all the Sydney NRL teams.

If I counted all the TV ratings for the 9 NRL clubs it would be 3.6 Million.. 400K telecast in Sydney X 9 ( or 36 times the popularity )
not 1.5 million

you put all 9 Sydney NRL clubs lots of fans together .. those that their interest goes from never miss a game to ... I watch em occasionally
its about 1.5 Million
or about 160K per club .. the remainder watching these games are fans of other clubs

the Swans a mere .. 100K

their are 15 RL fans ( across the 9 clubs ) for each .. & every .. 1 Swans fan in Sydney
fullstop.
