LOL - Broncos hope to one day match AFL Clubs

Post by Beaussie »

Hahaha, this is up there with the Canterbury Bulldogs thinking they would soon rival Collingwood.
Brisbane Broncos plan for membership to rival AFL levels and match attendance dominance
By Todd Balym
The Courier-Mail
December 27, 20118:58AM

Brisbane Broncos want to become one of Australia's most supported football clubs with a long-term plan for a membership explosion to mirror their attendance record.

Already ranked in the top three for membership in the NRL, and No.1 for average home crowds, the Broncos want to convert their enormous supporter base into a membership tally that would be the envy of their rival clubs and compete with the powerhouses of the AFL.

The Broncos had 16,138 members for the 2011 season and already before Christmas have reached the 12,000 milestone for 2012.

Broncos CEO Paul White said there was a desire within the organisation to aspire towards rapid growth and eventually compete with the AFL, which last season had seven clubs with figures beyond 40,000.

I can't see the Broncos matching the big clubs like Collingwood in membership any time soon but they will match and pass the lions in members within the next 5-10 years.

Only if they alter the figures like all NRL clubs do.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

And make sure that you're counted and you aren't a victim of their figure alterations.

Well you'd think they would've achieved that years ago being the only nrl club in Brisbane .
The reality is that the Lions outdrew the Broncos for 5 or six years.
The attraction of both teams is proportional to their onfield success.
The difference being the Broncos are privately owned and Australians prefer community clubs.
IMO the Lions will move back up the ladder somewhat and with the addition of the GC rivallry the future is boyant for those two clubs. I believe the Tittens are also privately owned and again Australians have shown they prefer community football.
Nice try Cos.

RL clubs have only started pushing memberships in the last three years and in that time the Broncos have gone from 11,000 to 16,000. Increasing each year even though they had their worst season on field in 2010. The Broncos have room to grow with an average crowd of 34,000 and only 16,000 members while the Lions lost 8k members with the inclusion of the suns this season.

As for privately owned vs community clubs, the Knights couldn't be more happy with the switch from community to private. Record crowds and members.

They Also went from tenth to 3rd last year. No wonder the memberships went up.

Really, let's be honest. They represent 2million people! So 16k or 0.008% of the city are members! Oh dear.

Imagine if collingwood, who represent 1/9th of 4 million, had only 0.008% members. That'd be only 3,555 members. That's almost NRL levels  . They actually have 70,000 or 15.8% preresentation!
King-Eliagh: ...I believe [RL] is popular in all the other states and territories, bar tasmania.

Crowds have nothing to do with private membership. Members for the Leagues Club and not the NRL club itself. That is how privately run clubs work.

They went from tenth to 3rd THIS YEAR. So this season member tally is based on the results of season 2010 which saw the Broncos miss the finals for the first time in 18 years. If they were the Lions thousands of people would had dumped them but instead they saw their membership numbers increase.

When do memberships close? Surely they gained a number of members early this year when fans realized they were playing better. They only lost a couple of games all year.

I'm not sure when memberships ceased sale but they stopped promoting them once the season started.

Most AFL teams grow significantly in memberships after the season starts, especially of the team make a positive start.

The Leagues Club must be delighted with this effort.

Why. The Broncos RLC and Broncos LC are two separate entities with separate boards.

The Broncos RLC make a profit without the help of pokies unlike the Brisbane Lions.

The memberships are all for the LC. The LC supports the RLC and always has.
