big call
And they got the one they wanted tonight.
10 years of finals….I stand by my call.
The AFL will change the draft procedure because of what gold coast did this year…and the AFL will be wrong.
the AFL are trying to build powerhouses in QLD with the lions and suns>> it is stating the obvious

AFL are doing there best in comprising the comp with an unlevel playing field

Something the NRL have tried to do with the Storm for the past 30 at many levels

It’s good the Lions and Suns are capturing the interest of the kids, to the point they are choosing AFL and many being drafted.

Something the Storm and NRL are struggling with in Melbourne

It was not all that long ago that the general consensus was that Gold Coast (and, for some, Brisbane) were a basket case And would never succeed, vic sides plundered their best players.
I believe it is quite reasonable to have Qld clubs have first access to local players, it is a great way to promote the game in Qld and get local kids involved in the game.
The other clubs are annoyed because the Queensland academy system is far more productive than they expected.
I would introduce a drafting system that would give more incentive for clubs to draft local players.
Gold Coast managed this years draft very well indeed.
Go Suns.
Love to see a Suns - Lions grand final in the coming years.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

never been a fan of the draft. (clubs should be nurturing there own talent) through grassroots development.

i think other clubs are also annoyed that the AFL are bending over backwards for Northern Clubs
and neglecting Victorian Clubs at there expense..

I would like to see a system where all states are encouraged to draft their own locals before drafting “interstate” players.
For Victoria I would like them go back to a regional zoning system…but recruits or potential recruits taking legal action led to the evolution of the draft and trade system we have today…attempts at equalisation further changed it.

Home games played at home: Average crowds.

Suns 17478
Titans 17211

Close again, but Suns win again.
Pity they fell apart at the late part of the season again, very disappointing.

Suns used 14 local players this year, which is the most yet.
However they averaged 10 games this year compared to 12.4 last year.

The contest should be made more fair, maybe Suns against Storm.

The 14 local players the Suns used this year is more local players the Storm have used nearly 30 years

If I did it like a “stranger in a strange land” scenario it wouldn't be much of a competition would it?

Lions, swans, gws, suns vs storm, warriors next year the bears…..well maybe I will look at that.

After starting the season as Favourites in 2026 that is a good shot in the arm for the SUNS> started strongly and finished poorly again.

same old story for the Titans.

its a good metric to use as its the real influence of what is happening at grass roots levels. the greif the RL fans give the Suns and Giants and applaud the Storm and NRL expansion efforts by numbers that are easily manipulated like social media and tv numbers, RL cant convert the kids to play says a lot of truth

AFL are pumping millions more into QLD and NSW over pass 15 years >> you see the results
NRL are pouring barley anything into VIC (you see the results.

Tv numbers are not manipulated >> DAZN and CH9 don't pay NRL 5.3billion and counting for nothing
