Melbourne Storm have sold an 80% controlling stake to Swedish private equity firm EQT for $120 million, valuing the club at around $150 million.

Chairman Matt Tripp says it will largely be business as usual, with Tripp remaining chairman, Justin Rodski CEO, Craig Bellamy coach and Frank Ponissi football boss.

would be interesting to see the finer details. i have zero idea on the finanicial output of the Storm but those equity firms usualy expect returns. football clubs are usually not the best investments made, unless you buy a Manchester united, Rael Madrid or Bayern München when money isnt an issue

Equity firms do not invest lightly in such things - they would have done their research.

Or for a tax harvesting reason for the portfolio to sporting teams aren’t great for making profits
