Hmm, seems like selective and misleading quoting of Wookie by the looks of it. He posted the following.

$700mill plus a season >> (dam i am giving myself a complement )

I backed the NRL over the last few years to reach $700mill per season.

(will be great to get the full details, of any changes to scheduling) (which we expect over the next week)

NRL is in dollar terms for TV the biggest in the country, it has actually been the biggest for the best part of decade. (just not on the scoreboard)

Haha!!! He'll be under the bed in his mama's basement. Fumblers don't cope well with adversity lolololool!!!!!!!!!

Now that the NRL has secured the biggest broadcast deal in Australian TV history I predict the fumblers will now pivot to talk down the deal rather than bleat about how the NRL will never beat the AFL number.

They'll go on about inflation. Or say the deals can't be compared due to .............(fill in lame reason here). Or contra. Or some BS metric that sookie will probably make up lololololoolol!!!!!!!!!

Bottom line is Peter The Great has delivered the greatest deal in history.

He's a good administrator for sure. I think both deals include contra so that's not an issue - just a good deal for NRL. I see 9 still get SoO at this stage - which I thought would be worth a lot more to be honest given its status as the premium event/comp in the land.

yep both deals will include contra, (they are expecting the deal to be official this week sometime)
so be good to get a breakdown on the figures and sums.

alot will be in the detail, with teams 18 and 19 and potentially Game 10 scenarios in broadcast $$ (team 20)

you 100% on state of origin >> Channel 9 look to have got a great deal overall
especially with ORIGIN >> a ratings mammoth

FOX have paid a good share for there price.

We won't get the exact numbers. Probably won't get much more than has been released so far. The fumblers said they were getting $643M a year but got just $530M in cash last year as per their financial report. A lot of smoke and mirrors in these things.

The only thing for sure is that the NRL deal is gonna be much bigger than the AFL's. Peter The Great has delivered. Rugby League reigns supreme.

What the NRL's $5bn TV deal is really worth

MIKE MEEHALL WOOD
JUN 30, 2026

https://mikemeehallwood.substack.com/p/ ... irect=true

If you read the headlines, this is all great: a 75% increase on the previous arrangement.

That sense of perspective, however, wants a word.

$700m in 2026 is about $550-600m in 2021 dollars, and the previous deal was done at around $400m a year, so it’s more like 50% higher based solely on inflation.

It’s also a seven-year deal this time, so it’ll be a lot less in real terms come the back end based on signing a longer contract – in fact, probably the same as the last year of the current deal should inflation track as the Reserve Bank of Australia would like it to.

It’s also split across a larger competition.

It’s a 17-team comp now, and will become 18 with the Bears next year, then 19 with the PNG Chiefs, and eventually 20 by the end of the contract.

You can break things down but the deal is the deal - the product is the product - whether it is 10 or 20 teams? Is what it is.

what's this bloke want>> NRL to get a $800mill tv deal.. because of inflation which is expected over next 7 years.

team 17 was included in the covid bad deal.

team 18 from Perth is a building market.
team 19 is PNG (overseas)
team 20 is potentially NZ

which will have potentially 3 teams outside of AUSTRALIA>

NRL got a terrific deal
