I also see today that they are only adding 1000 seats to Suncorp - I guess the upgrade may be about other things in the stadium?
it is the 1st phase of multiple stages.

see below >>>

Stage 1 (Currently Announced)Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2026 and aims for completion well ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.Entertainment & Seating: New terraced viewing platforms and standing/seating zones will replace the current scoreboards behind the northern and southern goals, creating new bars and entertainment spaces & Capacity:

This phase provides a "modest" uplift of about 1,000 spectators, bringing the total capacity to roughly 53,500.Technology: An Australian-first 360-degree wraparound LED ribbon board will be suspended from the roof, alongside two giant tennis-court-sized media mesh screens on the stadium forecourts.

Future Stages Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has confirmed that future stages are in the pipeline. The government intends to roll out subsequent upgrades to incrementally increase seating capacity further as Brisbane approaches the 2032 Games

With the way he is cutting projects at the moment would be interesting to see if this projected spending comes to fruition.

Perhaps it’s an issue with Gabba and Lions members as no shows?

The SCG has similar issues with SCG cricket members and sold out games, yet crowds fall well short of capacity. From memory, the Swans only offer a few thousand general public tickets for sale each game and are always sending emails to members about seat resales if you cannot attend in the days leading up to the game. I don’t think many take up the seat resale option when you consider the SCG capacity is 48,000, yet match day crowds never get close to that figure. Thinking the Gabba is a similar situation made worse by the smaller capacity. A problem for clubs with large membership bases that are bigger than the actual capacity of the stadiums. I guess the clubs have already banked the money anyway for each seat via reserved seat memberships.

The difference between a sell-out and a full game - I note now they will say all tickets exhausted.

good points, i think SCG and MCG are different as they hold alot of members etc>> so i do get that point.
i think you could also add in Suncorp stadium in that regard.. (broncos have stated it as an issue of (Suncorp Stadium Members)

cricket at SCG for Ashes last summer were hitting 47k and over each day.

so would be interesting a look into..
