true, a roof will put an end to any further " rectangularisation " of the venue
which is a shame.
Its a waste ....
If it goes ahead all we can hope for is a roof improves the atmosphere by capturing the noise & trapping it rather then it disspursing away
i find the atmosphere can be good with around 35k plus
it is the distance from the field in all angles which is the biggest of jokes.
lets hope it doesn't go ahead then , they're only talking about 100 million odd to do it , I have engineer friends who are telling me it would be impossible to do it for that little , around 300 million for something good.
& that may indeed make it too expensive.
fingers crossed
agreed...

I wonder if we will see cricket and AFL return to a roofed Homebush stadium?
i doubt if Cricket would, they have the beautiful SCG.

could be used for the occasional AFL Game.
and there is the occasional game..
lucky they are keeping it an oval :>::

QLD premier has announced today>>
Suncorp funding will be announced in the June Budget for the state.

Suncorp Stadium will be upgraded “well ahead” of 2032, Premier David Crisafulli has confirmed, as he hints at a major financial decision around plans to increase its capacity in the process.

Needs an increase and an upgrade for sure. Gets the crowds and should maximise on that - but will be the poor cousin to the AFL ground I would reckon until they get a new one.

poor cousin, i doubt it,
cannot beat a rectangle stadium, most sports play on them and most concerts also.
Suncorp will be used way more like it already is.

Olympic Stadium will be used for majority AFL and Cricket with the occasional suitable events.

Lang Park will always remain the Number 1 stadium, even with a 3 billion oval around the corner.

I think part of the sales pitch for the vic stadium was the logistics of getting in and out for concert promoters - this attteacting more concerts to Brisbane.

I’m still thinking that if the upgrade to Suncorp isn’t ready by 2032 we may see a SOO there - money talks and the extra seats and money speaks volumes

i highly doubt it..

Concerts and events majority prefer Rectangle configuration it suits the event so much more..

and at this present moment VIC PARK will not be much bigger than Suncorp.. there both looking to be around 60k

VIC PARK will certainly get the events, just SUNCORP will remain the Number 1

We will see - if it costs substantially less to have concerts at vic park - it is up with all latest technology - I think it would be preferred - it was a hugh selling point - given many high profile stars don’t come to Brisbane with the logistics of getting and out the apparent issue (I say apparent as this was what was reported at the time).

be hard to keep it cheap me would think... (it is expensive peace of real estate sitting at its cheapest of 3.5billion on current estimates.
be interesting to see the fees for hire etc

Suncorp is expensive > Broncos need 25k crowd just to break even. and there the main tenentant.

(anyways regards to the stadium)

it is going to be epic It looks like Optus with extra new gadgets it is going to be winner
i cannot wait to attend just like many Queenslanders

i think they are hoping for the ASHES 2031 Series in November to Open the stadium
so will get a full season BBL & AFL in 2032 before the Olympics :thumbleft:

I did some reading up - apparently the acoustics at Suncorp are not great - and not an easy fix as the square shape contributes to this. Apparently promoters love the arena type set up of ovals - just what I am reading. The take from reading a few things- The victoria Park will be the preference of the big concerts - namely as state of the art (being new - allthe new design and technology will be there - purposely built into the infrastructure - something a reconfiguration cannot really address), better sound quality (again - something considered and built into the design), better options re: configuration. These were just a few things - logisitcs was another with moving several semi-trailors in and out. Smaller acts and events may go to Suncorp - as it may be cheaper, not requiring the same level of "quality", lesser logistics issues with a smaller act. Anyway - that's my research on the matter - basic research but research none-the-less.

Cheaper in getting in and out of the place I was getting at.
